by AmbroseCadwell, 5 years agoThis add-on works for downloading videos from an embedded Vimeo-based source of the sort where you can't reach it via right-clicking or 'inspecting element' etc., the sort that a lot of these sorts of programs miss. Very pleased.
Make sure you click on the 'settings' wheel next to each video that comes up on the list to make sure you have the highest quality version of the video selected before you download- If I'd recommend any changes to the creators of this add-on it'd be to make the highest-quality version e.g. 1080p the default selected when a batch of the same video is detected as a single item like this.

Usually the highest quality is selected by default for streaming protocols that support such option. Except the cases when it was imposed directly by the website options. In further version of AVD the quality selection will be available right under the title of detected video without having to select it in the menu.

As a user of this extension for about 10 years ...a couple of years ago (2021) when they did the update to the new interface style etc. I immediately warned people to not use it.
Its bad, breaks everything, I reverted back to the last oldest version before that very update ... and I am still using that very version (4.9.2) right now.
I find that it still works good and better then any later version ever could.
I see things havent exactly gotten better since the last time I checked in here.
I also see some people asking for the native app but can't find any. I still have it.
mediafire.com/file/3pzb6vrwhsg6ahr/AVD_4.9.2.rar/file
This rar includes the original 4.9.2 addon installation files for Firefox and the matching native app.
For those interested;
Uninstall any current version of the addon and native app.
Simply extract the .rar
Drag the fx.xpi file into firefox, and it should pop up asking to install
Install the native app if you want
But in Firefox, disable Auto updates on this extension, it just ruins it.
In case you were going to want to try .... I can not guarantee that this specific native app version works with a later browser addon version either. It might just start crying about how that's not up to date. I am not gonna go through the trouble of testing it, I just don't care enough. There are other browser addons to begin with as well.
Now if I could only get Mozilla to stop making stupid changes nobody asked for to begin with as they have done in the past few years ... we'd all be happy campers. - Rated 2 out of 5by SzymonL, a year ago
