Please don't hesitate to contact with any questions or suggestions to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 1 out of 5by Cristian, 3 years agoThis extension used to be one of the best video downloader up until the end of 2021. Moving to the new interface and changing the native app code (the file size is 4 time bigger), it slows down FF so much that it cannot even load the drop down menu to show the detected videos.
I disable this extension for the moment until the developers decide to make it work again.
Update: I did reset (wipe out) the extension and I also contacted the developer with their support form. They answered that the extension is meant for more powerful computers (as if an i7, 8GB RAM is a low end computer?)Developer response

Increased Native App size is related to the new tools added for checking the streams befor downloading.

"AVOID 4.12
This was a great add-on until they tried to make it better."
I feel I was extremely unfair leaving such a harsh review.
You made something that a lot of people found useful, that includes me. It saved me hours of memory buffering waiting for videos to load and play. So, please accept my apologies I'm sorry.
All the complaining really resulted from your success with the addon.
Must have been somewhat gratifying and ego stroking to know people missed something you created. Unfortunately, some, well me, were completely ungrateful in the first place for it's existence, not to mention it was made available for free.
I really should have thanked you for giving the world this pretty cool and incredibly helpful addon.
So.. Thank you.
Thank you for your hard work, your generosity and your patience.
I hope the kinks get worked out and I promise to do better.Developer response

If you have any problems or suggestions, please contact with details to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 4 out of 5by Zimba, 3 years agoI find it is an improvement from the last few versions. Maybe I am lucky, didn't get the memory leaks etc. On the functionality, I would like to get the link again on each download to the temp folder. I often see that a download is running too fast, and then when I check the temp folder for that specific file, it shows only 1kb segments. Then I need to reload the page and fresh. It is cumbersome to get to the temp folders. Previous it was quick and easy. Also please check on the time out settings. I live in a rural area and often have hickups on the internet connection, causing the download to time out. Then have to start fresh as there is no resume option. When Ant detects a file as segments to download, it take a very long time to download only a few mb. When I have the option to download through browser and download as mb's, it is much faster. Why is the segments so slow. Please find a way to speed that up. I only have a 4g connection and most of the time only get about 200kb/sec. So these extra limitations are quite frustrating. I also often get the download running almost all the way through and then says unsuccessfull due to 0kb files. Also a new thing is when selecting to download through browser, which is the much faster option for me, then it downloads halfway through and then suddenly says finished, though only half the file was downloaded.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Nightwatch, 3 years agoRecent updates have broken this extension, yes even the update as of 01-18-2022. The memory leak is still in effect as is the CPU use cycles. The only difference I can see is that the firefox.exe that is hammering the RAM will now close when closing the browser (before you had to kill it in the task manager.) This extension's high resource use is enough that I am considering it potential malware.
Update. After uninstalling and reinstalling the ap, the memory leak seems to be resolved, as is the CPU thrashing. The mod once again seems to be functional, I will increase the rating of this addon if it continues to work as designed for a few more days.Developer response

It absolutely destroys memory and performance for Firefox.
It makes the entire browser lag even when you're just opening a new tab. I confirmed Ant Video Downloader was the problem and haven't had an issue since disabling it.
Hoping for an update that makes it usable again but for now I don't recommend it.Developer response

If you still encountering the same issue after this operations please contact with details about your system and browser to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 1 out of 5by Zentula, 3 years agoSomeone created a complicated update and ruined the programming, now the extension is essentially a malware.
I had to uninstall the extension two days ago. I studied computer science and did some programming many years ago hence I still recognize a blatant MEMORY LEAK and THRASHING - meaning this extension exponentially consumes excess system RAM until virtual memory is activated essentially hanging your computer that even a proper shutdown is near-impossible. The memory consumption is uncontrollable and very risky for a hard drive. It took me quite sometime to isolate the problem to this extension. Once Firefox is activated the system RAM begins to run wild after about a minute.
The affected firefox process is the one controlling all firefox extentions, hence terminating it stabilizes firefox and the computer but it kills all active extensions. You can activate each extension individually, but the moment you activate this Ant Video Downloader the issue will begin again.
I wonder if software development standards have dropped so bad that a program like this is allowed on a major web browser like firefox, even though I have reported the problem no one seems to care. You guys should deactivate the extension until the issue is fixed, or just totally remove the last update and create a completely new update rather than try to isolate one issue in a bad program.Developer response

Lately I've had some stability issues between the extension and Firefox (Firefox becoming a CPU and RAM hog). I have described those issues in Ticket#647948. They have required at least 3 reinstalls to get everything back on track, at least for a couple of days. It doesn't seem 100% stable at the moment, but at least it works again. :)

Please contact with details about your problem to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 1 out of 5by Augur, 3 years agoIt worked fine until the last update. Now, this thing slows Firefox down to a crawl, eats >95% of my available RAM, and it is impossible to access the menu even after reinstalling it or restarting Firefox, before memory usage blasts through the roof, because the menu won't even show up.
Clearly, as many other users have said, the devs should revert to the previous version and leave it at that, because it was nice, unobtrusive and did the job as asked. We don't need no fancy stuff or whatever, just tell me what videos are on the current tab (limit the displayed list to 5 or 10 items if there's a lot of videos, with a link to open a complete list if needed, which should hardly ever be needed), allow me to select which ones I want to download and where, and that's it.
I'll keep an eye here to see if the devs come back to their senses, but I'm also going to look for other apps doing the same job. If I find a good one, I'm probably not coming back though. Too bad, this extensions had been awesome for many years, but not anymore.Developer response

Please contact with details about your problem to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13181125, 3 years agoLook, when this Add-on works, it works really well. I have used it for years with no issues. The problem is, after the most recent updates, something broke, and it broke bad.
As many others have pointed out, Firefox will not run properly with this add-on in its current form. Reinstalling or resetting the data helps in the immediate short term, but within a day or two, you will have issues again.
For the sake of the developers, I sincerely hope they can fix the issue. For now, I'm afraid I have to leave this disabled until whatever the problem is gets fixed.
EDIT: It's been about 2 months and I'm afraid to say that this add-on is still very very broken. I cant tell you how or why, but invariably (even after a fresh install) It will slow Firefox down to a crawl after being active for a day or so.
Further, every time this happens it causes my computer to freeze on shut down and start up. Ill have to power cycle a few times to get things working again. This has happened 100% of the time ever since the issues with this Add-on have started. It is fixed 100% of the time when the add-on is disabled.
It saddens me greatly, but I think this is officially a lost cause.Developer response

Please contact with details about your problem to our support here: https://www.ant.com/support_form - Rated 1 out of 5by phoenix, 3 years agoI'm not a techie, so I wasn't able to determine the cause of my recent PC problems and inability to get web pages to download prior to reading about the similar experiences of many others here with the ANT extension. The only thing my internet provider could suggest was a faulty modem since everything else checked out fine, so I unnecessarily spent over $100 to buy one, and endured the worst week of my internet surfing life, bar none. To the developers: you are clearly not following proper program development protocols to safeguard those who put their trust in you. It's time to start.
Developer response
posted 3 years agoSorry to hear that. Hope you didn't buy it from the provider? Because they could easily determine connectivity issues with faulty equipment remotely, not suggest.
If you encounter issues with your web browser, you can do the following:
1) Start Firefox in Safe mode. To do this, hold down the Shift key and click the Firefox icon. Once the window "Open Firefox in Troubleshoot mode?" appears, release the Shift button. This will start the web browser in safe mode, with all extensions disabled. In this mode, you can remove or disable extensions that cause issues.
2) If you use Windows operating system, you already have yet another web browser installed, either IE 11 or Edge. You can temporarily use it to google for troubleshooting or to connect with our support.
We're going to release version 4.13 soon, and if the issue is gone, we shall provide detailed information on it in the release notes. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14189028, 3 years ago
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13581763, 3 years agoSlight improvement since the app was ruined with previous update. Please bring it back to how it was before the totally unnecessary 'improvements' which spoiled a once 5 star app. When something isn't broke, it doesn't require developer 'fixing'. I will wait for another update and hope things return to how they once were, when it was 5 star worthy. Any chance of a link to the original Ant Video before it was destroyed with recent updates? 98% of users saying virtually the same thing. 2% still giving 5 stars..all I can say is wow, doesn't seem genuine at all. Will definitely give 5 stars if you return things back to normal.
