Extension Metadata

About this extension
Firefox doesn't natively support the WebHID API. This add-on adds it back, so websites that use navigator.hid work just like they do in Chrome. Play browser-based games with your controller, configure your stream deck from a web page, or interact with any USB HID device without leaving Firefox.

Requires a companion daemon to communicate with HID hardware. Download and setup instructions available at: https://github.com/K4zoku/FF-WebHID

Key features
  • Plug and play: once the daemon is installed, devices show up automatically in any website's device picker
  • Dual transport modes: switch between WebSocket (fast, off-main-thread) and Native Messaging (simple, reliable) per site
  • Per-site settings: different data plane, control plane, fire-and-forget, and log level for each website
  • Multi-tab support: open the same device in multiple tabs simultaneously, each gets its own input reports
  • Auto-reconnect: daemon restarted? Device unplugged and replugged? The add-on reconnects automatically with no page reload
  • Hot-plug: plug in a new device while browsing and it appears instantly in the device picker
  • Security first: FIDO/U2F security keys (YubiKey, Titan, etc.) are blocked by default. Devices require explicit per-site permission grants
  • Cross-platform: works on Linux, macOS, and Windows

Installation
  1. Install the add-on from this page
  2. Install the system daemon (see the installation guide)
  3. Restart Firefox
  4. Visit any WebHID-enabled website and start using your devices

Privacy
  • All device communication stays on 127.0.0.1 (localhost)
  • No data is sent to any external server
  • WebSocket connections are localhost-only and token-authenticated
  • Device permissions are stored locally per site origin
