About this extension
Wisp is a bookmark manager that organizes, searches, and cleans up your bookmarks, shares them as QR codes, and keeps private ones in an encrypted vault. Everything runs locally on your device.
FEATURES
Organize
- Group bookmarks by topic, domain, month, or date
- Automatic topic categories (AUTO), computed on your device
- Create, rename, and delete your own categories
- Add notes to bookmarks and edit their URLs
Search and share
- Instant search across your whole archive
- Press / anywhere to jump to the search box
- Share any bookmark as a QR code
Clean up
- Check links: finds dead (severed) links and flags ones that could not be verified, such as sites that block automated checks
- Dormant bookmarks: lists bookmarks you have not opened in a while (adjustable threshold)
- Duplicates: finds repeated bookmarks so you can remove them
Private vault
- Hide bookmarks in a vault encrypted with AES-256-GCM, protected by your password
- A recovery key is generated in case you forget your password
- Hidden bookmarks are removed from the browser's bookmark list, so they do not appear in the native bookmark manager, sync, or exports. You can restore them at any time.
- The vault locks automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity
Backup and import
- Export a standard HTML file that any browser can import
- Export a Wisp backup (JSON) that keeps your categories, notes, and aliases
- Encrypted vault backups with an optional password hint
Themes
- Light and dark themes
PRIVACY
Wisp has no accounts, servers, or analytics. Your bookmarks, notes, and vault stay on your device. QR codes are generated locally. The only network requests are the link checks, which contact your own bookmarked URLs, and favicon lookups.
PERMISSIONS
- Bookmarks: read, organize, hide, and restore your bookmarks
- Storage: save settings, categories, notes, and the encrypted vault
- Host access (http/https): check whether your bookmarked links still work
- Alarms: lock the vault automatically
IMPORTANT
If you forget both your vault password and your recovery key, hidden bookmarks cannot be recovered. Keep your recovery key somewhere safe.
