- Rated 4 out of 5by iratuscatus, 2 years agoIt works. I wish it had a contrast checker so that I could either use different highlight colors or change the word color to make some text more readable.
- Rated 5 out of 5by Rudolph, 2 years agoVery useful for me, I use it literally everyday.
It would be preferable to me if you could add/edit a description to a word after you highlight it (on hover), instead of having to open the extension from toolbar every time. But otherwise, it is great. - Rated 4 out of 5by jokenngo, 2 years ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Gavan, 3 years agoAmazing little extension. My only issue is I'd like to be able to clear all the words from a group instead of deleting each word individually.
I tried deleting the group to clear the words, but it moved all the words into the default group instead, which I use for something else. - Rated 5 out of 5by E.Critic, 3 years agoty for this extension.
update: please allow us to export 'groups'. Exporting just the words doesn't do enough.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Odin2, 4 years agoI sometimes can't put my finger on a word I want to use, and when that happens [and I've recalled the word] I enter it into Word Highlighter; problem solved! This excellent add-on has been made better with a new backup facility.
The one (minor) flaw is the lack of the ability to turn the highlighting off. Ideally, it could be turned off for a particular website. But it's great as it is.Developer response

Disabling highlighting on some websites would be a nice addition. We'll add it, but I can't say how soon. Tracking item for the reference: https://github.com/ainzzorl/wordhighlighter/issues/86
Update (August 22, 2021) - you can now disable highlighting on specific pages for all words or for selected groups. See "Don't highlight on these pages" and "Except on these pages" under "Settings" and "Groups" tabs. - Rated 4 out of 5by olegzbf, 4 years agoхорошее приложение. но имеется лишь один цвет-желтый. просьба добавить другие цвета
Developer response
posted 4 years agoТеперь в разделе Settings вместо желтого можно выбрать любой другой цвет.
Не прошло и года :-) - Rated 5 out of 5by cmustudentx0001, 5 years agoThanks for the add-on.
It would be nicer if we can use hotkey to highlight the text. Also I wish we can have more color options. Thanks again~Developer response
posted 4 years agoSorry for the very late reply. Now you can change the color under in Settings.
I'm not quite sure about a hotkey to highlight the text - doesn't it highlight automatically when a page is loaded? - Rated 4 out of 5by Alexander Peter, 6 years agoHi... thank you for this work is usefull. I know every program need a lot of time. but can you develop customizable color for each word ? please .... i believe be better and more usefull for me
Developer response
posted 3 years agoYou can now assign words to different groups, and customize the color per group.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Tutenstein, 6 years agoThis add-on is just plain amazing. One thing great about this extension is that it works with Firefox Android too. Is there any way this add-on can highlight symbols like quotation marks, hash tag, question marks etc? If you can add such functionality I would be very grateful.

No, it can't highlight non-alphanumerical symbols at the moment, unfortunately. I'll consider fixing it in the next release, but I don't know when and if it will happen - there are no plans to make changes to the addon at the moment. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 14600015, 6 years agoNice and usefull add-on!
Lot of thanks to the author!
It could be a much more popular if has more features:
1. Enable/disable add-on with 2 clicks on toolbar icon.
2. Ability to add/remove/export/subscribe many vocabularies and enable/disable them.
3. Subscribe feature would be great! It is just ability to import vocabulary from URL of text file.
4. Assign custon color of highlited word and background/text of description - for each vocabulary separately.Developer response

These sound like good features for the next release, but I don't know when/if it will happen - there are no plans to make changes to the addon at the moment. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13061380, 6 years agoI couldn't get it to work with words with spaces in them, i.e, English phrasal verbs such as "look for" or expressions like "hodge podge" for instance, are not highlighted, only single words. I tried to use double (") or single quotes (') with no success.
As most learners (if not all) would benefit immensely from learning such words, I was wondering if there is any chance you could implement such useful feature?
Thanks in advance.Developer response

I'm afraid I'm not planning to work on the add-on in the near future. But when (and if) I get time to work on it, this feature will be at the top of my priority list. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14180704, 6 years agoWhy does this want access data for all websites? That's ridiculous and suspicious.
Developer response
posted 6 years agoIt needs to read and modify the page to highlight words on it. So to highlight words on all websites it needs access to all websites. I'm pretty sure any add-on that modifies visited pages needs permissions like this, unless it's limited to a specific domain, e.g. facebook.com.
“Access your data for all websites” indeed does sound scary (see explanation why it's phrased this way: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2018/02/01/understanding-extension-permission-requests/), but luckily this add-on is open-source, so it's fairly easy to verify that it doesn't try to steal your data or anything like that: https://github.com/ainzzorl/wordhighlighter The source code can also be viewed using extensions like https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/crxviewer/ - Rated 2 out of 5by Radek, 7 years ago
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13501845, 7 years agoit was great until it stopped working! No idea why
- Rated 5 out of 5by kringlur, 7 years agoWorks great in general, a good replacement for the now-dead "Vocabulary Highlighter" add-on which I was using before. I had one problem in that I tried to import 2,500 words and they all appear in the word list but on every page only 5-10 are highlighted. I don't know if this is my fault or a fault in the add-on. I have some suggestions:
1. You should be able to import/export your wordlist via a spreadsheet file or something similar. I'm gathering words to make my own dictionary, so being able to easily export and import all my words is very important. Right now you can highlight and copy-paste your wordlist from the add-on into a spreadsheet (thanks so much!!), but you can't import from a spreadsheet.
2. It would be nice if you could change the highlight color. I use another add-on (for people with bad eyesight) that changes all pages to black with white text, but reading white text with yellow highlight is really hard. Other people might want pink highlight for nouns, green highlight for verbs or suffixes, things like that. To other readers: if that option never happens, you can change the browser's highlight colour yourself using Stylish and some CSS.
3. When you first add a word via the right-click (context) menu, you should be able to add the definition at the same time. Right now it adds the word but the definition is blank so you have to immediately click on the add-on icon, click edit for the most recent word and then add the definition. Also right now it's hard to edit words you've already added that have wrong definitions, it would be better if you could right-click on the word on the page and edit it, or type it into a searchbar inside the add-on and it will find the one to edit for you.
4. It would be nice if you could claim one entry was the same as another entry so you didn't have to type the definition in a second time. Ex. "aqua" and "water" would both have the same definition as "water". This is for adding in things like abbreviations, common spelling mistakes, dialectal or historical versions of a word, etc. For example, I'm learning a language with no set spelling system, so the same word is spelled 10 different ways and I have to find and copy-paste the definition every time I find a new spelling!
