YFE — YouTube Focus Extension by DefaultPerson

Make YouTube fit your focus. Hide Shorts and recommendations, filter unwanted channels and keywords, and manage focus sessions from Firefox's sidebar. YFE is free and open source, with 298 appearance and behavior settings.

• Hide Shorts, home recommendations, related videos, comments, live chat and promotional shelves.
• Customize feeds, search, channels, video cards, navigation, colors and fonts. Google Fonts downloads are optional and off by default.
• Start focus sessions with a duration and inactivity timeout. Use entry pauses, confirmation phrases, breaks, temporary blocks and weekly schedules.
• Save appearance presets, select one for a session or apply it on a schedule. Built-in presets ask for confirmation and preserve the previous appearance.
• Filter cards, comments and posts by channel, keyword, ID, link or bounded regular expressions. Add rules from YouTube menus.
• Set default playback speed, automatic fullscreen, preferred quality and autoplay behavior. Ad skipping is experimental.
• Add a Play all button to a channel's Videos tab to open its regular-video uploads playlist.
• Protect selected settings with a local password or phrase. Forgotten-password recovery waits for a configurable delay and can be cancelled.
• Search all settings, switch between English and Russian, and import/export JSON. Use the sidebar or a full settings tab.

Desktop Firefox 153+; also tested in Zen based on Firefox 159. English by default. No account, subscription, analytics or developer backend. Settings stay in your browser. Appearance changes save immediately; other forms use Save.

Site access is limited to YouTube and its privacy-enhanced embeds. Page content, URLs, player state and recent activity are processed locally. Optional thumbnail replacement requests YouTube images; optional Google Fonts downloads request font stylesheets/files from Google. These requests expose normal network metadata, such as your IP address; no page text, filter rules or protection credentials are sent.

YouTube layouts change, so some settings may need updates. Filters hide cards/comments rather than blocking the playing video. Session limits are per session, not daily allowances. Protection is a self-control aid and can be bypassed by uninstalling the extension or editing browser data. Fullscreen can require a Play gesture. Mobile YouTube, cloud sync and summaries are not included.
