by jk, 4 years agoI may be jumping the gun here. I literally installed this add-on five minutes ago. It didn't have the specific feature I was looking for, but it seemed to come the closest.
I do a YouTube search. I see a bunch of relevant videos. Then I start seeing stuff that have nothing to do with my search. Then the foreign language stuff shows up and pretty much overtakes my search. I wanted to stop all these videos in languages I don't understand from showing up in my searches.
I had just done a search that was typical of the problem. Good stuff, useless stuff and foreign stuff. The further I scrolled down the more foreign stuff there was. Then I installed this add-on and ran the same search. I scrolled down and down and down. Not only was I not getting tons of irrelevant stuff, but no foreign language stuff.
Okay, it's not perfect. Keep scrolling down and foreign language stuff does start showing up,but it's a lot better than it was.
We'll see how it functions in the long term, but for now I couldn't be happier with Unhook.

- When I first installed this 2023 it worked great; I could block all the algorithmic parts of YouTube.
But it hasn't been updated since April 2024, and parts of it are starting to break, most notably the end-screen recommendations have started appearing again.
Using uBlock Origin, you can create filters to do pretty much everything that Unhook can do, so I will not be using this extension any more. If you don't want do bother with uBO filters, then Unhook may still be useful to you. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18408098, 2 days ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Someone, 5 days agoAmazing tool, and allowing you to slowly cordon off areas one by one helps it not immediately feel overwhelming. It'd be nice if this could get updated to fix some problems like search results being broken though :/

- Rated 3 out of 5by rua4d7, 15 days agoIt works well, when it works. For the most part it does, but after 2 years it is badly in need of an update. Additionally, the Android version doesn't have any way for you to open the settings to tweak what you want to see. The settings menu only appears during first-time setup, then never again.
It's potentially abandonware at this point, but I'll still use it for what benefit it does still provide. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18731100, 15 days agoA total life saver extension. Much help when trying to get rid of screen addiction.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Chantelle, 16 days agoUsed to be a must have but it's in dire need of updates. It messes with Pocket tube. "Hide explore, Trending" in particular. Last update was in 2024.
- Rated 4 out of 5by DeathlyFrozen, 17 days agoSeems to hide PocketTubes Subscription Groups when enabled alongside the regular subscriptions list YouTube has by default rather than only YouTubes default subscriptions list. Idk if it is a YouTube change or this extensions change or what but it didn't used to do that until I noticed it did today. If that could get tweaked/fixed I'd give 5 Stars happily as this extension works great. Also it seems that using "hide explore/trending" hides the YouTubes subscription list instead of the explore section for movies, gaming etc. Maybe the hide subscriptions and hide explore section got mixed up?
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 19594374, 18 days agoYT has changed and the hide Explore option now hides the You (history, playlists, watch later) section. Needs an update as YT has remixed the backend a bit.

- Rated 3 out of 5by luiffr, 24 days agoi would like to use to remove youtube shorts completely, but this extension only removes youtube shorts from the sidebar, but does not prevent shorts from appearing in the search engine. If the developer improves this option, I will give 5 stars.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 18563782, a month agoDoesnt hide Shorts anymore, maybe a update is needed
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19571671, a month agoPlz can you also hide the more videos cards that appear below when making the vid full screen 😔 this extension really makes me focus on my study 💯✨✨
- Rated 2 out of 5by fipachu, a month agoNo longer blocks end of video recommendations after YouTube released the new UI :cccccc
Most other features still work, but I really need all features to work. - Rated 4 out of 5by PhobicNova, a month agoWorked like a charm, now currently having spotty functionality (possibly due to Youtube's UI changes).
