The Focus Society is a comprehensive productivity and study companion designed to gamify deep work. By combining classic Pomodoro techniques with a robust virtual economy, it transforms routine study sessions into a structured, rewarding progression system.
Focus & Session Management
At the core of the extension is a customizable focus timer that tracks deliberate effort. It includes features for pausing, abandoning sessions, and placing wagers on your focus. The system monitors tab-switching to ensure active engagement and rewards successful sessions with Study Coins, while celebrating completions with targeted notifications. Users can also manually log credit for offline activities like lectures, flashcards, or educational reading.
The Distraction Gate & Virtual Economy
To combat passive browsing, The Focus Society implements an always-on "paid distraction gate." Accessing user-configured distraction domains requires a 30-second confirmation window and an entry fee of 5 Study Coins, plus 1 Study Coin for every active minute spent on the site. A live paid-visit meter tracks active consumption, automatically cutting off access when the coin balance hits zero. A built-in spending ledger tracks all currency flow.
