- Datamine your butthole. And your excuse about "extension is actually recommended by Mozilla" is bullshit - because if was recomended BEFORE this update, so label just got transfered further and means nothing. Its not warranty of addon update being checked by mozilla team before publishing.
Other similiar addons write:
Access your data for www.youtube.com
Access your data for m.youtube.com
Access your data for returnyoutubedislikeapi.com
And thats ALL! Nothing more. While this addon ask not only url's listed above but also asks next:
Required data collection, according to the developer:
• Browsing activity (what activity? All my cookies, tabs, and history? For what?)
• Personally identifying information (lol, what? what exactly information? I know about some kind of rydAPI unique ID for each user, thats not too good to create a user-fingerprint point but fine if this is only thing. But statement DOES NOT clarifies which identifying info its targeting)
• Website activity (what exactly activity?)
• Website content (no clarification which content. All It wants I guess?)
"It's opensorce - go check yourself" - If i would know how to code I would definately created some kind of local script or forked this addon, but I don't. And history actually knows how opensource can be left with unnoticed backdoor, so thrust is very expensive thing and this addon have lost it for sure. - 评分 4 / 5来自 Shin-Cataro， 17 天前I Really hope its just a big misunderstanding, as you already answered all those many dislikes i had to just give this one 4/5 Stars, one star less, because it looks so horrible, i really do not like Datamining and i really want to trust you Mr. Dev... soooo I’ve told Mozilla about it, in the hopes that the wording gets corrected to match what the extension is actually doing.
No one in their right mind would opt into data mining like this, even if it’s just the appearance of it being wrong.
Especially because many extensions these days are going in that direction, data is the oil of the modern technocracy, so to speak.

RYD hasn’t changed how it handles your data. What changed is how Mozilla labels these permissions - not what the extension does with your data.
The extension is actually recommended by Mozilla, so they do not consider it harmful or dangerous.
The only data the extension uses is what it needs to show dislikes and count votes.
Its site permissions cover YouTube and its own API at returnyoutubedislikeapi.com. RYD doesn’t read other websites, and these site permissions cannot be used to access them.
Here’s what those permissions mean:
Personally identifiable information - RYD’s randomly generated, anonymous user ID, used to count votes. This isn’t your Google or YouTube account.
Browsing activity - opening the next YouTube video, so the extension can send its video ID and fetch the new dislike count.

- 评分 4 / 5来自 Firefox 用户 18691224， 17 天前This is definitely a issue of communication, because people are just so tired of their information being stolen that generic tags to do a feature has everyone on high alert.
The plugin being open source and the dev responding to questions and criticism is what saved it. If a popup for the update happened before its update to explain what it actually does, I feel this would have been avoided. - The dev is trying to gaslight people in the replies to low star reviews saying that nothing about the extension has change and the reason it is asking for more permissions is just because Mozilla changed how they label the permissions but that's a flat out lie.
As many others have pointed out the add-on is now gathering unique identifiable user data, there is no way to prove that he is selling user data but it is the most likely explanation.
The other way the developer keeps trying to gaslight people is by claiming "Clearly nothing changed since we are a recommended add-on" knowing full well that the Recommended badge DOES NOT get reviewed with every new update. I have reported the new practices from this dev to Mozilla and I encourage everybody else do to the same.开发者回应

Wondering if there's a way to stop it requesting new permissions, for good. I don't want or need to keep having to click Cancel, and keep having the warning symbol on the menu button on every relaunch of the browser. I shouldn't have to repeat the dissent to having my data collected.

- 评分 1 / 5来自 thedemon44， 18 天前Developer can say what he wants, but this is the beginning of the end no matter what. As soon as "personally identifying information, browsing activity, website content, website activity" exists, so does the value of the app for someone who wants that information.
I hardly think it is review bombing when people give a formerly good app a bad rating. Sure you can ignore this new version and not update, but it is unavoidable on a new device.
All good things come to an end, and if it is getting too expensive now, the costs will only rise until he either sells or stops. the reasons don't matter, the intend doesn't matter, asking for our trust... we've all heard that song and dance before.
