Every thumbnail is a promise. This tells you whether the video keeps it.

Saved You 20 Minutes reads a YouTube video's transcript and answers the question the title is dangling — before you spend twenty minutes finding out for yourself.

Spoiling the video is the entire point.



The answer, not a description. If the title asks a question, the first line answers it. If it teases a reveal, the first line reveals it. You will never get "this video discusses…" — that describes the video instead of delivering it.

A verdict that means something. Worth it, skim it, or skip it — judged against the summary you just read, not against nothing. The question it asks is "what does watching add that reading this didn't?" A good video on a topic you care about is still worth it even after a good summary. A thin one is skip even when the topic is interesting.

Timestamps that actually land. Jump straight to the parts that matter, if any do. Cited times are snapped onto moments that genuinely exist in the transcript rather than estimated.

A clickbait score, but only when it's earned. The tone stays informative and plain; it only gets pointed when the gap between the title and the video is genuinely large.

Key takeaways as real claims you could repeat — "argues X is caused by Y, because Z" — not a list of topic labels.



There is no account, no subscription, and no server. You paste an API key into Settings and the extension talks to that provider directly from your browser.

A summary costs well under a cent, and every one is cached — so you pay once per video, ever. A Test key button checks your key with a single token before you spend anything on a real video.



Nothing is sent until you click. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, and no server of mine — none exists to run.

When you click, that video's title, channel and transcript go to the provider you chose, using your key. That's the complete list. Your API key is held in the background script where no web page, YouTube included, can reach it. Summaries are cached locally and you can clear them at any time.

• Needs captions. Some videos genuinely have none, and there's nothing to fall back on.
• Live streams have no transcript until they end.
• Long videos are sampled evenly across the full runtime rather than truncated — a clickbait video holds its payoff until the last few minutes, and that payoff is the whole point.
• Auto-generated captions garble names and numbers. Where a term is clearly mangled, you'll see a reconstruction marked (?) rather than a confident guess.
