Verso: Highlighter for Web, PDF & YouTube 的隐私政策
Verso: Highlighter for Web, PDF & YouTube 作者: Khushwant Singh
Verso privacy policy (full, always up to date: https://verso.singhkhushwant.in/privacy)
Verso is a reading highlighter: a browser extension and a website. In short: Verso stores what you choose to save, never sells or shares it for advertising, and has no ads or tracking.
WHAT VERSO STORES
- Your account: email address, username, display name, and your password, stored only as a salted hash (scrypt). Optional profile details you add.
- What you save: the pages you highlight or bookmark (address, title, site, thumbnail), your highlights, notes, tags, AI summaries, and your likes, comments and follows.
- PDFs you upload to your library. They are always private, and each file is deleted 7 days after upload (your highlights on it are kept).
- Your Claude API key, if you add one. It is encrypted before it is stored and used only for your own AI requests.
- AI usage counts (feature, model, tokens). Verso does not keep the text of your AI prompts or answers, except summaries you generate for a page.
- Feedback you send, with your browser's user-agent string, and your email if you give it.
- Sign-in sessions: which device and browser each session is from and when it was last used.
- A security log of account events (sign-ups, logins, password changes, exports and so on), with the time, IP address, country and user-agent. Visible only to Verso's administrators; deleted after 90 days.
- When you accepted the Terms and Privacy policy; how you found Verso (campaign tag and referring site, if any); your timezone and language; which days you use Verso (dates only); and where you last connected from (IP address, country, browser, Verso client).
Verso never records your general browsing: pages you visit are not logged unless you highlight, bookmark or open Verso on them.
WHAT THE EXTENSION SENDS
- It only contacts Verso about a page when that page is already in your library, or when you highlight, bookmark or open the Verso sidebar on it. Your general browsing is not sent anywhere.
- Page text is sent for AI features only when you use them (Summary, Chat, Suggested highlights). It goes to Anthropic through your own API key.
- It is off by default on sensitive sites such as email, document editors and banking, and you can turn it off for any site.
- It keeps a local cache and an offline queue in the browser's extension storage.
- On read.amazon.com it reads your Kindle notebook only when you click Export, or on the auto-sync schedule you set.
- If you remove the extension, your browser opens a short, optional survey. Your answer isn't linked to your account.
WHAT OTHER PEOPLE CAN SEE
New pages are public by default (your profile, feeds, Explore, the Community view). You can make any page private, or everything private by default. Private pages, bookmarks and uploaded PDFs are never shown to anyone else. Your email address is never shown publicly.
SERVICES VERSO RELIES ON
Anthropic (AI features, with your API key), Mailtrap (emails), Cloudflare (network and security), Oracle Cloud in India (hosting), and Notion/Readwise only if you connect them. Verso does not sell your data, show ads, or use advertising or analytics trackers.
HOW LONG DATA IS KEPT
Highlights, notes and pages stay until you delete them. Deleting your account removes everything straight away; nightly backups (without PDF files) are kept for up to 7 days. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 7 days.
YOUR CHOICES
Export everything at any time, correct your details, delete your account, remove your Claude API key, and turn off the weekly digest, all in Settings.
SECURITY
All traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed, sessions and API tokens are stored only as hashes, and Claude API keys are encrypted at rest.
CHILDREN
Verso is not intended for children under 13.
