PRIVACY
YouTube Archive Description Viewer for Firefox does not collect analytics, create advertising profiles, sell user data, or transfer user data to its developer.
Data used by the extension
The current public YouTube video ID. When you explicitly choose Find old descriptions, the extension uses this ID to ask Internet Archive whether public Wayback snapshots exist.
Wayback snapshot URLs and archived page content. After you select a capture date, the extension downloads that public snapshot from Internet Archive and parses it locally to display its title, channel, and description.
Settings and local cache. The three display settings, capture lists, and parsed snapshot results are saved in Firefox extension-local storage. Capture lists expire after 30 days; parsed entries are capped at 100 and are removed when you clear the current video's cache or remove the extension.
What is sent outside Firefox
Only Internet Archive's https://web.archive.org receives data from this extension:
a Wayback CDX request containing the public video URL or ID, after you choose Find old descriptions;
a selected public snapshot URL, after you select that date or use the panel's manual snapshot test.
Requests do not include YouTube cookies, Firefox cookies, an extension identifier, or a referrer. Internet Archive can still receive ordinary network information such as your IP address under its own policies.
Security design
The add-on has no analytics, advertising SDK, remote JavaScript, or web-accessible extension page.
It requests only storage and HTTPS access to the exact Wayback host. It does not request tabs, history, cookie, download, scripting, or web-request access.
The Firefox background code accepts archive requests only from a top-level YouTube watch page and validates the HTTPS host, allowed Wayback path, and response size before returning data to the page integration.
Archived text is rendered with DOM text nodes; it is not inserted as executable HTML.
Deletion and retention
Use Clear cache for this video in the panel to delete its capture and parsed-result cache. Removing the add-on deletes its extension-local storage. Firefox local extension storage is not an encryption vault, so do not share a Firefox profile or computer account with people you do not trust.
Third-party service
Wayback requests are handled by Internet Archive. Its handling of network requests is governed by its own policies.
