i can't find the way to SELECT MULTIPLE BOOKMARKS AND MOVE TO A FOLDER like you can do in the library panel. somebody know how to do this?Developer response
posted 4 years agoHello, multiple selection is not yet available and is still a TODO = https://github.com/aaFn/Bookmark-search-plus-2/issues/29
Note: I just recently restarted working on it, hopefully it will be out in a couple of versions.
Thank you, aaFn. - Rated 5 out of 5by paulc, 4 years agoThis is excellent. This is the single best productivity improvement for bookmarks you can get on any browser. The search works across both folder and bookmark names. It provides an interactive split window above default bookmarks so you can search and manage bookmarks in one. I switched from Chrome to Firefox exclusively to try this feature and I am amazed how well it works.
- Rated 5 out of 5by ThomasZ, 4 years agovery effective. I use it most to find location of bookmark in my structure / bookmark folders.

Updated / Upgraded Review:
Hello aaFn. I'm upgrading my review to 5 stars since you fixed the multi-select issue! Good job! Thanks.
BTW, I found this reply of yours to another user's review while searching for updated info regarding multi-selection:
"Hello @Bagus, you will be happy to see that now multi-selection is available, as of 2.0.103 :-)"
I'm wondering what "2.0.103" means? Oh well. Thanks again! Your add-on has come in very handy often!

Updated / Upgraded Review:
Based on your reply to my security concerns I finally decided to install your add-on. I just installed it, and gave it a quick spin. It appears to work as intended. so, thanks for that.
I hope you get some time soon to upgrade Bsp2 so users can select more than one bookmark at the same time –as you indicated you intend to. BTW, I upgraded Bsp2 from 3 to 4 stars. Please fix multiselect so I can give it 5! Thanks again!

Original Review (left in 2020ish):
I used to have the Alice0775 Go Parent Folder Extension, and like many, many others I've been looking for a suitable replacement ever since FF 57. I read through a good many of the reviews for, Bsp2, and I am impressed! I really do want to use it. However, I don't understand how one is expected to trust this extension (as well as many others out there) when the following happens:
1. At the top of the extension's home page this warning is prominently displayed:
"This is not monitored for security through Mozilla's Recommended Extensions program. Make sure you trust it before installing."
2. Then, in the Permissions section one reads:
'Access your data for all websites' which, at least for me, raises flags right away.
3. Of course, one then obviously follows the link being offered in this same 'Permissions' section which reads: 'Learn more about permissions'. That link then leads one to the explanations page:
'Permission request messages for Firefox extensions'
4. There, one can read the particular explanation for the specific permission:
'Access your data for all websites'
which states:
"The extension can read the content of any web page you visit as well as data you enter into those web pages, such as usernames and passwords."
Say what? Call me paranoid, but at that point my brain is already thinking, "There is no way I'm installing this thing!" And granted, the explanation does go on to say:
"Extensions requesting this permission might:
-Offer a password manager that reads and writes details of your username and password"
However, that explanation does little to assuage my fears that my usernames and passwords will become accessible, and possibly be misused.
In all seriousness, I would be elated to know that there is a worthy, and possibly better, replacement for 'Go Parent Folder'; and that once again I'm able to find the parent folder to my thousands of bookmarks with just a couple of clicks. For me however, this permissions (overreach) issue really stands in the way. As I said, I read many of the reviews for Bsp2, as well as the many thoughtful replies, and it does seem this extension's creator is well intended.
Searching for the word 'password' in all the reviews, it appears I'm the only one who has pointed out this issue, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way though. Perhaps, I'm simply just the only one whose taken the time to bring it up. I would venture to say that many potential users are being spooked by the wording of the permission descriptions and explanations. AaFn, please shed some light on this issue. I really want to use your app!Developer response
posted 4 years agoHello @DeLaPiscina, thank you for taking the time to write that review.
There are really 2 points:
1. Statement at top of the extension's home page.
This is Mozilla's approach, and yes I believe that even than if gentler than initially conceived by them, it would be more factual and generating less anxiety if it could have 3 values instead of only two : Elected, Not screened (= BSP2 case), or Not recommended.
See https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/this-is-not-a-recommended-extension-make-sure-you-trust-it-before-installing/49059
The way it is currently set, it merges the last 2 values together, and so puts in the same bag everything ... and people have no way to make sure they trust an extension without reviewing themselves the add-on source code (see https://github.com/aaFn/Bookmark-search-plus-2) ... I am not sure everybody can do that ...
2. 'Access your data for all websites'
See https://github.com/aaFn/Bookmark-search-plus-2/wiki/Permissions-and-Privacy-policy for an explanation.
As soon as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1315616 is provided, BSP2 will be able to drop that permission.
Note that if you are concerned with BSP2 accessing web sites to retrieve the favicons, you can disable that in its Options page. The drawback is that you lose the favicons (= little icons for each URL) in the bookmark tree.
I could try to implement a mechanism for that option to be optional and ask for it in a popup window, but this is a lot of code for a Firefox limitation which shouldn't be there (Chrome doesn't have that limitation), and which I hope will disappear by fixing the bug, so temporary situation. See https://github.com/aaFn/Bookmark-search-plus-2/issues/91
Meanwhile, I fully sympathize with what you expose, being myself a bit paranoid on the Internet :-). And you are not the only one concerned, I saw a few others concerned by this before also. This is why I documented in details for each permission why BSP2 is needing it (again -> https://github.com/aaFn/Bookmark-search-plus-2/wiki/Permissions-and-Privacy-policy)
I hope this helps. Thanks, aaFn. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13460202, 4 years ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Dark with Green Highlights, 4 years agoWhat I've been looking for; location of a bookmark in its respective bookmark folder. FF should've make this native.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14158259, 4 years agoThe extension stopped working for me some time ago. It's stuck on "Wait background load..." message when I try to run it.
EDIT: Uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have fixed it, as it installed an updated version. I don't know why it didn't auto-update before.Developer response
posted 4 years agoHello, glad that the problem solved with a reinstall. Else, when you have trouble, do not hesitate to raise an issue here https://github.com/aaFn/Bookmark-search-plus-2/issues for support.
Thank you, aaFn. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 16228066, 4 years agoPerfect!
Not such a stupid search as Mozilla offers, which provides no information in which folder the bookmarks are in.
It is incomprehensible why Mozilla cannot do this itself after all these years. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13401163, 4 years agoI just installed and I am instantly impressed. For many years, I've looked for a way to find FOLDERS by name in a bookmark search. This tool seems to fill the bill, and it does a lot more on top of that. I look forward to continued use. And now I see I can filter search results to "folders only." And Regex! Excellent.
- Rated 5 out of 5by miko, 4 years agoNice extension. Just what I was looking for. Beforehand every time I tried to search firefox bookmarks firefox always froze without exception. This has been going on for years.
At first I Suspected malware. Ever since I installed this extension firefox has constantly been trying to connect to unsafe sites. Blocked by Bitdefender from connecting. I ran a malwares scan etc and nothing found. On a hunch I disabled this extension (as it was the last extension I installed) and these incursions have stopped.
Apparently according to the developer (from response from previous 1 star review )it is the extension going through and accessing favicons for each bookmark to and can be disabled. I have done that and problem solved.Developer response
posted 4 years agoHello @miko, that is correct, and that will really be a relief when Mozilla will enable favicon access in Firefox API, cf. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1315616 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1411120, like Chrome is doing.
Please vote on those two bugs to raise their priority with the FF team !
When it's available, I will be able to drop the code for fetching the favicons :-)
Unsafe site messages are because you have bookmarked them, and so when BSP2 tries to retrieve the favicon from those sites, this creates the problem. When FF will make favicons available, that won't happen anymore. And meanwhile, the workaround is to disable favicon fetching as you have done, or to wait that BSP2 does all bookmarks, since this only happens one time, they are all cached by BSP2 after that.
Thank you, aaFn. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13930132, 4 years agoThank you for your excellent add-on!
It really helps me managing my bookmarks!
Additionally, refetching the afvicons gives me the advantage of keeping them safe, as Malwarebytes reports malicious sites during that process.
It also gives me the possibility to make the bookmarks more readable by using a slightly larger font. - Rated 5 out of 5by brain8891, 4 years agoIf you need to find a bookmark, THIS IS IT. Having said that, remember that Firefox don't allow add-ons to access [Tags] & [Keywords], But I am sure that aaFn will implement it as soon as it is available. Now back to my review, this made my life easier, I need to find a bookmark folder, I just filter by folders, and then add that bookmark there. so easy. Thank you aaFn, for sharing this. I wanted to thank you today, by finding an email or something, and I realized I didn't even review your add-on. For others. Always review and thank good add-ons developers, and if you can always donate to them.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Cormchij, 4 years agoGreat, handy addon. But it does not open local links to files and folders on the PC like: file: /// F: /TCVIMG/*.* and file: /// F: / TCVIMG /. Standard bookmark manager - understands and opens everything normally. This is inconvenient if you need to view a file on the HDD. Make it open such local links.
Developer response
posted 4 years agoHello @Cormchij, correct, this is forbidden by Firefox, add-ons cannot access / open local files.
Have a look at the Browser console (Ctrl+Shift+J) when you click on such a bookmark in BSP2, you will see security messages in it saying Firefox prevented using the URL:
"Error: Illegal URL: file:///E:...."
Note that there seems you could have a workaround, but this requires that you modify your Firefox config: http://www.websina.com/bugzero/kb/browser-file-url.html (an add-on cannot do that of course) - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 16126167, 4 years agoWith this add-on one can find folder where bookmark is located. Thanks for feature I need!

- Rated 5 out of 5by Infinity, 5 years agoA magnificent and extremely useful extension.
Yes, it does omit several key features in certain areas, but this is solely due to the pathetically limited Firefox API (which is in no way the fault of this extension).
In fact it's a miracle that even this level of functionality was attainable, given how ridiculously limited the capabilities of Web Extensions are.
Kudos to the developer. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 5509918, 5 years agoExcelent addon! But it's not fast. And when I create a new folder, the popup window runs to the right and down from the screen and slows down very much, and I can't see the input folder name field.
Developer response
posted 5 years agoHello, thank you.
Yes, because of a few limitations in the Firefox API, this is creating in fact a small browser window, not a simple property panel, so this is is slower. And to add to that, some Firefox discrepancies between OS and behavior force an opening in two steps, creating the window very small and at default place, and then moving it and enlarging it to get it painted properly :-(
Now, on the position of the window itself, it is saved, so you can move it, and next time it is open, it will reappear at the place you moved it to the previous time, so that should solve your point about not seeing the input folder name field (note: that also works if you have firefox spanning multiple screens ..) - Rated 5 out of 5by Joao Martins, 5 years ago
