- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13432326, 7 years agoI gave three stars in recognition of the great history and usefulness of this Great Extension
It is too bad the Dictators at Mozilla forced you to inhibit this extension to support their egocentric view of FireFox.
I have had to disable Colorful Tabs it on all systems as 57+ the colours are too irritating
and the extension does not work on <57 (no colours).
Possibly you should consider other browsers, currently I am testing Opera, which is OK (not great).
The advantage Opera has for me at the moment is support for Web Pages saved in a Single File Format
which the Mozilla Dictators killed.
Also, Make Use Of has identified some new players in the browser world,
hopefully one of them will emerge to fill the void Mozilla has created.
Good Luck (& Skill!) as you move forward,

I received a message from the developer stating my review was for a previous version (32). I updated to 32.1, but it is not much better. Now it changes all the tabs to white, and still colors the current tab (and menu bar, etc., which is useless). It still does nothing to help identify other tabs. I will gladly change my rating if it starts working as planned.
Original Text
ColorfulTabs always made it easier to identify tabs. Now, not only are the tabs NOT colored, they are blurred so I can't read them or find the one I'm looking for. Only the current tab is colored. It is useless. We don't need to find the current tab. And the icon that brings up a duplicate set (of colored tabs) is a wasted 'click', and is disorienting.
It used to be 5 stars. Now it is zero. Can't find anything useful about it. it's got to go!Developer response

However, it is not working the way it did before. It seems to come with its own theme and everything changes to a black background. I hope this will be resolved, but until it is, I am going to deactivate it.

That was the period to try out a new version, not now.
Colorful tabs is now twice dead, I'll look in a few months to see if it's been resurrected.Developer response
posted 7 years agoWell https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1320585 was files long ago and we come up with solutions as and when ideas strike, not necessarily when the 57 version is forced. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 6117950, 7 years agoNeither the Quantum or the ESR version are satisfactory. Only the active tab is highlighted with color, other tabs are in background color and hard to see. And I see no configuration controls to manage its appearance. Let's hope a new version that provides better compatibility will be available soon.

posted 7 years agoFor ESR, the only version that works is https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/versions/31.2.3 You will need to disable addon updates also. - Rated 1 out of 5by mdms, 7 years agoПоследняя версия - глючное говно. I’m lucky we got it to work at all. Currently we can only color the current tab. Thanks to Patrick for coming up with an innovative idea. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13284007, 7 years ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by MBB, 7 years agoWas good but now it hurts my eyes. Why do developers believe that they need to follow the bad MSFT W8 color scheme example. This may work on a cell phone but looks awful on a regular screen.. MSFT has made all our buttons flat and unfortunately the trend has been adopted by almost every developer. What looked pleasant in the past now looks as if developed by a colorblind toddler who had too much sugar.

But after the Firefox Quantum update, ColorFul Tubs looks awful!
Previously, only the headers of the tabs were painted in different colors, now everything is painted. Somehow the browser looks silly, for example, pink.
Is it possible to fix this, so that it was like before?Developer response

Please also see: https://www.addongenie.com/forums/topic/colorfultabs-disabled-in-firefox-quantum- Rated 4 out of 5by moemoff, 7 years agoDo not blame the author .. blame those that developed Quantum. They favour the need for speed as opposed to HOW the browser is used. I doubt very much that they even looked at how folks used the browser in conjunction with the best add ons. BOOO to Firefox makers which has made the addon virtually impossible to use.
Oh .. with the automatic downloads they kidnapped loads of unsuspecting punters giving them no choice .. but you can revert to an older version of Firefox (ESR) which will have security updates. The more that do it .. the more they will see they need to work on API.
You could also try waterfox which allows the use of Colourful tabs. For a lot of long term users its function over electric speed. Colourful tabs Version 31.2.2 works with waterfox.Developer response
posted 7 years agoThanks for standing by me moemoff. Most users here think ColorfulTabs is to blame even though we coded it straight in 24 hours and had something working for Firefox Quantum 57. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13297201, 7 years agoles font noir ne permette plus de lire les texte on ne vois plus la croix

And if these features can no longer be done with the new add-on restrictions and "it is not the fault of the developer" then this add-on should be put out to pasture. Pushing out an unfinished update is irresponsible and annoying. I was sad to have this become a deactivated legacy add-on after v57, but I am so annoyed with the update process and having to uninstall that I bothered to sign up for an account here to write this review. Shame no zero stars possible.

posted 7 years agoGlad you did that. Glad you realize who is at fault. Glad you can't rank Firefox. And glad you have the ability to give us a negative review here. Thank your luck. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13488019, 7 years agoI have always loved Colorful Tabs. But the latest release for Firefox 57 was not tested enough. The tab bar appears mostly as a black blur, and you cannot even get to the "_" or the "X" at the top right of the window for minimizing and closing the browser. I hope there is some way to hear about an updated, functional release of this formerly great Firefox extension, because right now I have had to uninstall it. It just cannot be used in its most recent incarnation.

(1) No colours in inactive tabs (2) Text in inactive tabs unreadable, (3) Cannot drag with titlebar/tabbar.
Edit: I'm not trying to blame anyone, extension authors have done a fantastic job and I have used it for many years. It's just unfortunate that in it current state the extension is unusable. Colouring just the current tab is is nice, kinda less useful but at least it's something that can be used. The other two problems are unfortunately showstoppers.Developer response
