- Rated 1 out of 5by Charlie One, 9 days agoAs of this writing Ghostery is fully incompatible with YouTube. You must disable it or the site will barely function. (YouTube becomes incredibly laggy and videos will take forever to load). I submitted a ticket to the Ghostery support team and they said they fixed the issue, but the problem is not fixed even a little bit.
Edit: I see the response from the developer below, and it's true it is now compatible with YouTube, but YouTube is very laggy with the extension. It will eventually load a video and play it, but it's still a real hassle. Not worth using for YouTube until this is fixed.Developer response

Unfortunately all ad blockers are confronted with the same problem. We’ve recently rolled out several fixes addressing issues with YouTube, and the latest Ghostery version should provide a more stable experience.
Best, Ghostery Team - Rated 1 out of 5by Si, 10 days agoBeen having issues with Youtube being seriously slow over the past week, been examining my PiHole for any issues, but then went through my browser extensions one by one and found that Ghostery was slowing it down to the point where videos wasn't loading thumbnails. Once I'd removed the Ghostery extension, Youtube worked properly again.

We’ve made several updates recently to improve Ghostery’s behavior on YouTube, and things should now be more stable. We’re continuing to monitor the experience and work on further improvements where needed.
Best, Ghostery Team - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 20152412, a month agoIf your entire reason for existing is to allow people to avoid annoying pop up ads on the internet, DON'T force an annoying pop up ad on them demanding a review... And DON'T make that ad impossible to delete without exiting the browser... And DON'T then act as if you didn't do any of this when you quite rightly get roasted in the reviews.

Best, Ghostery Team - Rated 1 out of 5by Lunule, a month agoDoesn't block ChatGPT ads. This was my only reason to install it, but it seems, as of September 2026, there's no Firefox add-on able to block ChatGPT ads.

Ghostery Team - Rated 1 out of 5by Guy, 7 months agoThis anti-ad extension gave me a popup with a broken close button asking me to leave a review. So here it is: Popup ads are the worst, don't use software that forces them on you.

posted 6 months agoHello there, thanks for your feedback.
Our call for a review is a one time message and you are always free to close it if it feels like too much. Ghostery itself runs quietly in the background, keeping your browsing ad-free, private, and fast.
Since Ghostery is completely free, many people discover it through recommendations and users sharing how Ghostery makes a difference in their everyday browsing. Thanks for being part of the Ghostery community and for sharing your perspective.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Skodafahrer, 7 months agoSince I'm forced to see a popup, until I write this review, 1 star. Uninstalling
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 14855025, 7 months agoWas great until a pop up just literally wouldnt close until I wrote this review. Uninstalling now.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19765960, 7 months agoGot 1 star because of the silly popup begging for a review. I have Ghostery to stop that type of nonsense. Otherwise it seems to work reasonably well across OSes and browsers

oh how I wish to go back to v. 8.12.11 - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18744715, a year agoUse to be really good, but now has Ghostery’s True User Agent that decides if it is going to pause Ghostery on a website or not. And there is no way to turn that off. That totally circumvents the very reason it exists in the first place.
