Firefox always opens a new tab at the far right of the tab strip, however many tabs you already have. If you keep more than a handful open, the tab you just opened lands nowhere near the one you opened it from, and you have to go looking for it.

This extension puts it where you expect: directly to the right of the tab you were on. Press Ctrl+T, or have another program hand a link to Firefox, and the new tab appears beside your current one instead of at the end.

It also fixes the other half of the problem. When you close the tab you are looking at, Firefox moves you to whichever tab happens to sit next to it, which is often something unrelated. This extension returns you to the tab you were actually viewing before, so closing a tab you opened for a quick look puts you straight back where you left off.

Tabs opened from a link on a page are left exactly where Firefox puts them, so a page that opens several links in a row keeps them in order. Restored tabs, duplicated tabs, and a full session restore after a restart are left untouched, so your own tab order survives.

There is nothing to configure, no account, and no network access. The extension reads only where your tabs sit in the strip, never their addresses or their contents.
