Still work on FF 55 (might need to restart FF to activate the settings, but no big deal here).

PS: you were looking for a way to use local files... the latest version accepts (very) long data:image URIs (i'm using a ~ 1M long URI string)... maybe that's a lead ?

This does the job it's supposed to perfectly. I hate the white about: and home pages that firefox provides as default, they're incredibly blinding when you have all your websites dark themed.

This themes the new tab page the color you want and has a couple extra options as well.
