posted 7 years agoThis is not possible in the current version (20.0) of Print Edit WE, but will be considered for a future enhancement - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 13330898, 7 years agoSorry, but I haven't even downloaded Print Edit WE, because I don't think Mozilla, as an independent organization which is keen on personal security/privacy, should be asking for all these permissions:
******************
Permissions
Some add-ons ask for permission to perform certain functions (example: a tab management add-on will ask permission to access your browser’s tab system).
Since you’re in control of your Firefox, the choice to grant or deny these requests is yours. Accepting permissions does not inherently compromise your browser’s performance or security, but in some rare cases risk may be involved.
This add-on can:
Access your data for all websites
Download files and read and modify the browser’s download history
Display notifications to you
Access browser tabs
Access browser activity during navigation
********************
If/when the permissions are cut to ONLY those strictly necessary for printing the page you're on, I might reconsiderDeveloper response
posted 7 years agoLegacy add-ons, such as the original Print Edit, had greater permissions than Print Edit WE.
The permission messages that you see when you install an add-on are generated by Firefox. These permission messages are based on the permissions specified in the add-on manifest file. These permission messages are broad-brush and do not give a detailed insight into the operations performed by an add-on.
In summary:
- Print Edit WE only asks for the permissions it needs to perform its functions.
- Print Edit WE saves the configured options in your Firefox profile on your computer.
- Print Edit WE (when you use Save As HMTL or Save As PDF) saves the page you have edited in the location you choose on your computer.
- Print Edit WE does not send any data to the developer or to third parties. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13127959, 7 years agoWhat would we do without this Add-on? Print unwanted content...
- Rated 5 out of 5by lburg801, 7 years agoI am so grateful for the ability to save the cleaned up page as a PDF.
- Rated 2 out of 5by Mohammad, 7 years agopage breaks is not working with firefox 56.0 (64-bit)
( SHIFT and #) - Rated 1 out of 5by bobinv, 7 years agoI'm not happy with new Print Edit WE as compared to the old Print Edit. When I try to edit a web page, not all of the page will disappear when I highlight and Delete Except, etc. I can't seem to get the edited part to move to the top and to the left. I end up with a lot of dead space on top and on the left, which makes it basically unusable. Also, I have Yahoo mail. I used to be able to pull up the print page from yahoo mail, then "Print Edit" from the new print page. I realize there is a ""Format" option, but it's in a format that non-techies like me can't understand. Also, the "Delete Except" unrestricted seems to wipe everything off the screen. I'm using Firefox 56.0 (64 bit).
- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 13285613, 7 years agoSome objects / icons on the page are buggy, they don't show up on print preview. Some functions are missing / broken. Web Style function does not seem to work. I honestly don't understand why it has to reload the web page on a new tab to start editing, as some sites do not allow this (reloading a page conflicts with current active session).
It's pointless to write all the issues here, because this add-on used to work just fine, and i got my job done at some point. Compare to non-WE version, this add-on is simply useless, as in "no better than the browser's built-in print preview". All i want is to keep everything same from the non-WE version, but no. What happened? - Rated 5 out of 5by BrianA, 7 years agoMuch less intuitive than old version. I found left click on the icon seemed the easiest way to go. One problem I've not been able to solve is that the print preview and thus the printed version has the editing boxes across the top. (Select, Hide, Delete ....etc)
Edit: Tried it again and the boxes not there.
FF56.0 (64 bit) Rating 5* Thanks for rapid responseDeveloper response
posted 7 years agoIf you are using Firefox 55 or earlier, then the 'Preview' button on the Print Edit WE toolbar opens the 'Print' dialog, rather than switching to Firefox's print preview window. In this case, you will have to open Firefox's print preview window using 'File > Print Preview' on the Firefox main menu bar. Before doing that, click on the Print Edit WE button to suspend editing, and the Print Edit WE toolbar in the page will be hidden.
If you are using Firefox 56 or later, the the 'Preview' button on the Print Edit WE toolbar switches to Firefox's print preview window. - Rated 3 out of 5by Ricardo, 7 years agoWhen editing a page, only the option to save as HTML is available.
When suspending the editing of a page (SUP), the menu disappears, so the print preview can not be accessedDeveloper response
posted 7 years agoThe 'Save As PDF' menu command is only available with Firefox 56 or later versions.
The 'Preview' button on the Print Edit WE toolbar will switch to the Firefox print preview window, if you are using Firefox 56 or later version. Otherwise it will open the Firefox Print dialog.
When you click on the toolbar button to suspend editing, the Print Edit WE toolbar should be removed - that is the whole point of suspending editing!
Print Preview can be accessed by right-clicking on the toolbar button, or by using File > Print Preview on the Firefox main menu bar, or by putting the Firefox Print button on the toolbar. - Rated 3 out of 5by Yo Yo!, 7 years agoMy first experience with the WE version - trying to save its add-on page as a PDF - was very disappointing, to say the least. And that's why I've given it a very "ordinary" 3 star rating.
But before getting the timely warning that the old version of Print Edit ("PE") won't work with the upcoming Firefox version 57.0, and for more than a year since first discovering it, I've used PE every time I've wanted to save a web page, rather than just its URL - so maybe up to a dozen times a day. PE is far and away the best tool I've found for this purpose.
Just as well I haven't uninstalled the old version yet, so I had already used PE to create a "ready reference" PDF of the Print Edit WE add-on page. This page was the first time I've seen a clear explanation of what "Text Pieces" is for (but that might just be my bad, for not looking in the right place sooner).
Now, I can't wait for Firefox 57.0, which may at last fix the horrendous memory leaks we've been experiencing for at least nine months. But please tell us WHY can't Print Edit WE work to document the following special pages for Firefox:
. >>> about:, moz-extension:, addons.mozilla.org <<< .
(and similar pages for Chrome)?Developer response
posted 7 years agoPrint Edit WE uses the new Firefox WebExtensions API's, which are the same as the Chrome extension API's.
These API's do not allow extensions to perform certain types of operations on a few pages, which are either browser administration pages or web store pages, specifically:
- about:
- moz-extension:
- chrome:
- chrome-extension:
- https://chrome.google.com/webstore - Rated 3 out of 5by dpdapper, 7 years agoStill great functionality, but have to agree with the earlier review that the multi-step process is a pain in the neck. I read the developer's response to the post but it adds unneeded (in my view) complexity to what was a seamless edit/preview/print process in the prior version of the add-on.
- Rated 2 out of 5by CookieRevised, 7 years agoAn addon everyone really needs.
This said, with this new WebExtensions version, the UI of this addons is REALLY confusing. I certainly do not like the two/three step method at all. I rather prefer the 'old' interface of the classic Add-on version instead of this strange and non-intuitive WebExtension version.
Uninstalled, and went back to the classic version.... :(
(going to disable updates on FF56 anyways)
EDIT, after reply from creator:
- I really do not see the need for a (forced) prep-stage... If I want something to prep before printing/editing I would have done that already on the page itself, before activating the print edit, because that is what I would like to print edit. It is a useless step and unfortunatly can't be 'disabled'.
- Duplicating the tab: I could live with that, but I rather want to go directly into the dedicated print preview window from the File menu, like before. Makes much more sense and has less steps to go thru.
- Also, I could Print Edit any previously saved page before with the classic version. So, no benefits there either.
- The only benefit I see with this new approach is that you're able to edit multiple pages at the same time. But that is something I never have the need for and thus never do.
Conclussion: compared to the classic addon, it has far more downsides than improvements for me. Still I appreciate the effort and skills though!
If you would re-introduce the File>Print Edit again, to go directly to the dedicated print preview window, I might reconsider. - Rated 3 out of 5by Bambus, 7 years agodas alte AddOn war auch in Deutsch (kommt vlt. noch in der neuen Version)

- Rated 3 out of 5by BeBBo, 7 years agoPlease, can I know why these permissions are requested?
- Access browser tasks while browsing,
- Files download...
Why?
Thanks.Developer response
posted 7 years agoAccess browser tabs - to allow the page Title and URL to be accessed.
Access browser activity during navigation - to allow detection of navigation to a different page, so that the toolbar icon can be faded if it is a special page that cannot be edited.
Download files - to allow the Save As HTML and Save As PDF menu commands to work. - Rated 5 out of 5by Anup, 7 years agoI'm really counting down when mozilla share drops down from 6% to less than 1. They can shove v57 quantum up their aass.

This addon worked perfectly earlier (v56 n prev. v). Now not only it is unbearably slow starting up, it saves the webpage as corrputed pdfs.

REPLY TO DEV.:
I'm using Firefox 57.0b3 (32-bit) on Windows 10 Pro version 1703 build 15063. I've been a long-time user and fan of this addon and I'm doing exactly what you described but the saved page as pdf turns out to be a corrupted file such that Adobe Reader/Firefox/Chrome fails to open/read it.
Thank you for replying. You are a great dev and have been of great help all these years.Developer response
posted 7 years agoIf you use Print Edit WE 19.0 (or later version) with Firefox 56.0, then saving to PDF works correctly on Windows and Linux.
However, Mozilla have introduced a bug in Firefox 57 beta that prevents 'Save As PDF' working correctly.
There is now a fix in Nightly 58 that resolves this issue, and this fix should be uplifted to Firefox 57 beta before it is released. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 12074104, 7 years agoWith the previous Print Edit i could save data as HTML. Now i can only print what i also can do without this app.

posted 7 years agoYou should still be able to save an edited web page by clicking the 'Save' button on the Print Edit WE toolbar, and then selecting one of the following menu commands:
- Save As HTML
- Save As PDF (not available on Mac OS X)
Which version of Firefox are you using?
Which operating system are you using?
If you are still having difficulties, please email to: dw-dev@gmx.com - Rated 4 out of 5by mjfa, 7 years agoThis app works great on windows, but not on ubuntu linux. It only saves a blank txt file on ubuntu linux. Any idea why? The windows version is fine. Will update to 5 stars if the linux version is fixed. However it may be a problem with the browser and not the app.
Update: I am using Firefox Beta on both windows and ubuntu. - Rated 4 out of 5by Nodrog, 7 years agoFollowing the update to v19.3 there is a problem with the toolbar button becoming unresponsive after the first click to enter the "preparing" stage, thereafter it is only possible to continue with "editing/suspend editing" by right-clicking on the button and using the context menu.

posted 7 years agoThis bug was accidentally introduced in Version 19.3 and only affects Firefox 55 and earlier versions.
This bug is fixed in Version 19.4, which will be released in a couple of days time. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13262784, 7 years agoI LOVE this extension. Still, here are two small bugs, which I noticed:
1) Before the bug: The webpage "begins" below the Print Edit Toolbar (when in edit mode) which is good so that the Print Edit Toolbar dos not cover the top part of the webpage. BUG: However, when I do a "delete except" then Print Edit Toolbar all of a sudden *does* cover the top of the page (the page kind of "slips" up under the toolbar at the top). All other editing actions (afai tried) did not make the toolbar cover the top of the resulting page.
2) When I do a print preview, I also get the print settings dialog, which is not needed at that point and only in the way of having a good look at the preview.Developer response
posted 7 years ago1) This bug is fixed in Print Edit WE 19.3.
2) The interfaces to allow switching directly into the Print Preview window are not available in Firefox 55.
There is an 'Important Notice' on the Print Edit WE homepage that describes how to display the Print Preview window when using Firefox 55 or earlier.
When Firefox 56 is released, the Print Preview window will be displayed when you click on the toolbar 'Preview' button. Also, when you click on the toolbar ‘Save’ button, there will be a ‘Save as PDF’ menu item.
So all of the functionality of the original Print Edit will then be available. - Rated 5 out of 5by hytron, 7 years agoAnd 'Print Edit WE' (e10 compatible) is a life saver!
User friendly, intiuitive addon. I use it to clear the cutter before saving web page as PDF (Adobe Acrobat)
Ability to use selectors, and even select multiple ones at once (using SHIFT) - is extraordinary!
