- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17951441, 2 years agoI've been using Proton VPN for a while now. Very nice, but why are some sites/apps unresponsive with VPN ON? As for this extension, how is having a Firefox VPN extension different than connecting to VPN system-wide through the Proton app?
- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 16118621, 2 years agoBug report: Great VPN extension, however one annoying problem. After waking my laptop from sleep, the VPN connection cannot establish itself. The only way to enable normal operation is to dis/enable the extension.
Actually two problems. When the connection is in the process of connecting, the notification already claims it is connected to xx country. So the devs issue the notification too early. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 17949073, 2 years agoI would rate 5 stars, however it is quite annoying to have a notification every few minutes when the connection is established, or re-established - if there is a way to mute these notifications, this would be a huge improvement. The constant pings are distracting and unnecessary.
EDIT: My bad - there is indeed a setting to mute notifications!Developer response
posted 2 years agoThere is a notification setting to disable them (See Features in the left side-bar). We're also investigating why on some devices the extension is seeing a state change while still connected to the same server. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 17948934, 2 years agoIt's great to finally have an extension option for connecting to ProtonVPN, but it seems to be a little buggy.
Every few minutes I get another notification saying a VPN connection has been established. I can turn off notifications, but it seems for whatever reason it is losing and reestablishing connection every few minutes, but doesn't provide any information as to why that's the case. - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 13325126, 2 years agoUnfortunately quite frequent reconnections, visible on the popup, which I quickly turned off.
The super-fast connection at browser start or after standby or hibernation should be emphasized positively in any case. Clearly better than the Windows app by a large margin.
If you need Killswitch, you have to use the app for the operating system, the browser extension does not have that.
Split tunneling also works very well: Now I don't always have to switch browsers for my online banking page, for example. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14428996, 2 years agoProton rocks, top notch service, I use every one of their products, and am not dissapointed at al, and I'm a retired network admin and sysadmin with a huge focus on security, as I worked for a CLEC phone company.. Highly recommend
- Rated 2 out of 5by RT, 2 years agoIt's nice to have a proton vpn extension. However, after successfully conneting, all traffic in the browser is blocked by the company firewall. The extension needs measures to circumvent blocks, otherwise is useless in most relevant cases (or countries).
edit: secure core is blocked too. Using the proton desktop application, only stealth protocol is able to connectDeveloper response
posted 2 years agoHello, can you maybe try Secure Core, as it's using a different port on the browser extension, if a firewall is blocking by port, it might fix it. - Rated 5 out of 5by S_Ives, 2 years agoI'm not a 'heavy' user however this add-on works perfectly for me. I'm really enjoying being able to tunnel my browser traffic through the VPN whilst keeping other traffic open (e.g. logging in to my workplace's email server) at the click of a button. This is perfect for me, and when I need a little more grunt then I can just jump over to the desktop client etc.

Developer response
posted 2 years agoHello,
This browser extension supports Firefox for Linux, if you have any issue running Firefox Proton VPN extension on Linux, I recommend you reach the customer support: https://protonvpn.com/support-form
About the protocol, it's simply HTTPS because that's what browser provides to do a proxy with encryption. So if browsing websites works, then it means the protocol is not blocked. However the port used might be blocked. Maybe you can try to enable Secure Core in the options as it uses the port 443 (which cannot be blocked neither as it would make the browser unusable).
I also take note of the requested profiles feature.- Rated 5 out of 5by Ramon RO, 2 years ago
- Rated 2 out of 5by barrowsx, 2 years agoThe actual ProtonVPN service itself is definitely 5 stars, but unfortunately this add-on has a few glaring issues that make it borderline unusable:
- The connection will randomly drop and reconnect. Obviously for a VPN extension, this is a pretty critical failure and needs to be addressed ASAP.
- Compounding this, as far as I can tell, there is no "kill switch" option at all, so if the tunnel loses connection then your web traffic leaks to your ISP.
- When the extension randomly drops your connection, if you have the "Secure Core" option selected, it will not reconnect via Secure Core and instead just directly reconnect to the fastest server.
Additionally, it would be nice if you could enable some free servers for those with non-premium accounts, but I recognize that you're running a business and the extension is meant to be a value add for paying users. Having said that, however, the extension itself is critically flawed, and I would recommend users instead use the desktop version of ProtonVPN and tunnel your web browser's traffic through it instead, as it at least has a functioning kill switch option to help prevent leaks. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 12775621, 2 years agoWe are required to login account, impossible to share my account with my friend access this extension.
I share my account with my friend, he only has access to the ProtonVPN client, but with this extension it is not possible to share with him. - Rated 5 out of 5by 5dRao, 2 years ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by KaOus, 2 years agoThis is my first addon review ever.
I give it 1 star, because at the current time it has no use for me. It's paid. You get nothing free. I suggest to make it at least 10 minutes/ 1 hours a day free vpn.
If you add free stuff, I will edit my review - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 16361897, 2 years agoSmooth, simple, recently expanded service offers. Minimal but functional use at a free level, expanded options for paid users.
