Wtf, why is this so unnecessarily complex when it comes to reddit comment images ? In fact, I would prefer if when I right click the image and click 'save Webp as PNG', it instantly does exactly just that, instead of this multi-options crap that won't even appear correctly like in this case. Also, the UI for it is very ugly and unprofessional.
Also, don't tell me to right click open in new tab the image. Reddit has this stupid issue when it comes to images inside comments where doing that will lead to a broken link (imgur.com/a/Wa7FDhH). F*ck reddit for automatically converting PNGs into WEBPs.
It's a shame that the entire of Firefox only has this as WEBP-to-PNG extension. I'm specifically having to dual use another Chromium browser just because Chrome extension store has another WEBP-to-PNG extension that does EXACTLY just what simple request I wanted. posted 6 months agoFirst, I didn't realize the button bar was scrunched in a way that makes it unusable on those images. I'll have to investigate.
Second, by default, if you Shift+click the menu item, it bypasses the button bar and saves as PNG. You can change which action occurs on a plain click versus Shift+click in the options. (Another reviewer shared an example of where to change this: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/save-webp-as-png-or-jpeg/reviews/2120797/ )
I have a couple pending requests to have sub-menus as an alternative to a button bar, since not everyone finds that design attractive, but I haven't found time to work on that. - Rated 1 out of 5by Islam Nurmagomedov, 7 months agoTrash, can't retain background transparency of PNG, instead turn into black bg.
Developer response
posted 7 months agoIs this a problem with pasting? Firefox does something weird with the transparent areas of PNGs when pasting. You may need to save those or use a different format. (Bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460969)
If it's a problem with saving, could you share the address of a problem image? You can contact me either at jscher2000@outlook.com or start a new issue thread on https://github.com/jscher2000/Save-webP-as-extension/issues - Rated 1 out of 5by AdSpeedupDoesntWork, 8 months agodoesn't work most of the time - I get this: "Permission to inject script was denied"
Developer response
posted 8 months agoI know about two times you could expect to see that: (1) restricted sites like Mozilla sites, and (2) sites that protect themselves from extension scripts using the "sandbox" security policy (#2 was fixed in Firefox 128).
Do you want to share some example URLs by sending them to jscher2000@outlook.com or posting in this thread: https://github.com/jscher2000/Save-webP-as-extension/issues/30 - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18161014, 8 months agorandomly crops images when saving as png. used to work great

posted 8 months agoIs the problem on sites where the images zoom within the page? I tried to fix that bug with the version 1.5.2 update. However, I only had one badly behaved site to test on. Could you send me the new problem site(s) at jscher2000@outlook.com or mention them in a new comment under the following issue: https://github.com/jscher2000/Save-webP-as-extension/issues/10
Or maybe it's a new scenario. Any leads would be helpful. Thanks. - Rated 1 out of 5by Me, 10 months agoDoesn't go to the last folder saved in like the standard save dialog. No option for that in the settings. Uninstalled.
Developer response
posted 10 months agoThis combination of settings will accomplish that:
Save Dialog / AutoSave Options
Show Save As dialog each time => "Yes"
Save Path Options
Initial or Autosave folder => "Directly in my downloads folder"
I need to update the text on the Options page to clarify that. - Rated 1 out of 5by Kiflaam, a year agoONE STAR SO IT IS SEEN: most of the negative reviews are by people that don't know how to check the bottom of the right-click menu. Indeed, this add-on adds a new option on the right-click menu so you can save as a png in one click, without having to go through MS paint. FIVE STARS
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 17694088, a year agojust links to ezgif. Removed. bookmark ezgif.com/webp-to-gif
Developer response
posted 10 months agoFor converting to PNG and JPEG, the add-on doesn't need to use external services unless Firefox restricts the page. To convert animated WebP to animated GIF, you need to use an external service (Firefox doesn't have a function add-ons can call for that). - Rated 1 out of 5by qdfgn, a year agouseless, it won't let you choose the folder once and for all, so any time it saves you in changing image extension, you lose in having to navigate to correct folder EVERY SINGLE TIME
Developer response
posted a year agoUnfortunately, add-ons are restricted to starting in either the Downloads folder and or in a sub-folder of the Downloads folder. If you don't want to save in the Save_webP folder, you can place a shortcut in that folder to double-click over to your preferred location. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18333680, a year ago

posted a year agoHi, could you open an issue at https://github.com/jscher2000/Save-webP-as-extension/issues or send me an email at jscher2000@outlook.com for personal assistance? Until then, if the menu item is no longer appearing on the right-click context menu, you might want to remove and reinstall it, and if you notice a problem in private windows (Ctrl+Shift+P or "Never Remember History") make sure it is enabled for private windows when you reinstall.
(Update: version 1.5.1 pops up a little panel with some more options when the script is denied permission to read the page. Previously that just caused silent failure.)- Rated 1 out of 5by mae, a year ago

(Update: version 1.5.1 pops up a little panel with some more options when the script is denied permission to read the page. Previously that just caused silent failure.)- Rated 1 out of 5by spiercy16, 2 years agoTested this and the first two images I saved only saved about the top-left 50% of the images. Otherwise, it's an excellent idea for an extension.
Developer response
posted 2 years agoHmm, the canvas used for the format conversion should scale to the natural dimensions of the image, but it sounds like there is some enlargement factor that I missed with those. So I can test the problem site, could you email me at jscher2000@outlook.com or submit a new issue on https://github.com/jscher2000/Save-webP-as-extension/issues ? Thanks.
As a workaround until then, you can try the "IE11" button, which re-requests the image as an older browser to discourage sending modern formats. Depending on the site, that may work for you. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 16314216, 2 years agodoesn't do anything. option appears in right click menu but nothing happens when I click it.

posted 2 years agoHi morpheen, does the add-on entry show on the right-click context menu? If so, do the buttons display when you click the item? If so, do any of the buttons work or are they all nonresponsive?

posted 3 years agoHi rotie, could you start a thread on https://github.com/jscher2000/Save-webP-as-extension/issues/ and give an example of a page where it doesn't work, or email me at jscher2000@outlook.com
**Update** I noticed this can happen in a framed page. Try using either right-click > Open Image in New Tab (use the stand-alone image viewer), or right-click > This Frame > Open Frame in New Tab to work around this issue for now. Hopefully I can figure out the issue. - Rated 1 out of 5by rd, 3 years agoI right click on image and select save webp as...... then nothing happens. Removed app.

posted 3 years agoSorry to hear about this problem. You should get a row of buttons overlaid on the image to select your preferred format. If there is a specific site where you noticed this problem, perhaps there is a problem with the positioning (above, below, behind the image?). You can contact me using Github or email (see the links on the lower left side of the main page for the add-on)

posted 3 years agoHi Matchbook, does the add-on menu item appear when you right-click on an image?
If not:
One possible reason is that it is a background image behind another element; currently, the extension does not detect those. Select Open Image in New Tab first and then right-click the image in the new tab (stand-alone image viewer). Another possible issue is not be enabled to run in private windows. More info on that in the following article: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/extensions-private-browsing
Next question: do the save buttons appear overlaid on the image after you select the right-click context menu item?
If not:
You can contact me for assistance using the Email link on the main page or the Issues tab on Github (add-on Homepage link).- Rated 1 out of 5by know one, 4 years agono add-ons i found Convert GIF it's what i want

posted 4 years agoVersion 1.0 adds a "Save as IE11" button which helps with some animated GIF files (such as on Tumblr). Sometimes you need to cancel the first save dialog and click it again to bypass Firefox's cache and get the original .gif file.
Alternately, as mentioned in the description for this extension, you can try my other extension, which discourages sites from sending you WebP images when the original is a GIF: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/dont-accept-webp/
