- Rated 4 out of 5by Alessandro Duarte, 6 years agoHi! A fine replace for CoolPreviews but in some cases when we preview the link it automatically open the preview page and doesn't even let you go back! Correct that and it's a 5 star extension!!!! ;)

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14348742, 6 years agoI missed the original Cool Previews addon. Not everyone thought it was relevant but I did and used it all the time. With the release of the Simple Link Preview I felt as if I had been given a gift. I read the reviews and personally thought that the program actually worked very well. I saw where people were complaining about the size of the displayed window or that it didn't seem to automatically close after moving off the window. I always had my Cool Previews window just as large so this was not an issue. I never experienced the problem of the window not automatically closing. I did find that simply LMB clicking off of the window would make the window close so maybe they may want to try that. For me this was like finding a missing link as I said, I had been using Cool Previews for a long time. Great work Lecron. You have a new fan!!!!
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14342908, 6 years agoFinally, a replacement, and improvement, on the long-missed CoolPreviews. Such a time saver for those of us who often do extensive searches.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 13077710, 6 years agoIt's nice to see that Firefox has released a replacement for CoolPreviews. To the Developer; is there a command or set of keystrokes that controls the vertical ↕ size of the preview window? The horizontal ↔ size can be changed with the mouse cursor. The preview window needs to be size adjustable as any other program window. I don't really want a half-screen preview. That defeats the purpose of a link preview that not completely disruptive to the current web page. Evan a default 4x5 inch quarter-panel in the right corner would be better than taking up half or a third of the entire screen with the preview.

- Rated 2 out of 5by Firefox user 14258027, 6 years agoIt worked with FF 56 and after I upgraded to Firefox 61.0.2 - 32 bit it stopped working on over half of stored links (torrenting, anime online, kisscartoon ...) On some it shows only a blank window on others it does not show even the icon (hon3yhd.com, torrenting, rarbg..) as if it's not there. On 1337x it switches from preview into full screen and you actually end up on the page you wanted to preview... and so on
Hope you can fix that someday. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 14243109, 6 years agoI can't help but compare it with the old CoolPreviews extension that was bought up by Yahoo and then faded away, particularly since this add-on is using the same graphical icon that CoolPreviews did.
It works as it suggests, but the preview window isn't moveable and the pin isn't required because they are ALL pinned by default and only clicking on the X will close the window.
It could stand the user option of choosing where you'd like the graphic to come up when you hover over a link, too.
But it does, otherwise, work fine.Developer response
posted 6 years agoThanks for your feedback. Yes, the addon is similar to CoolPreview, but only for the task to be solved. In the rest, there is a difference between the words "Cool" and "Simple", which are included in the addon name. "Simple" will remain as simple as possible.
I'm surprised that automatic hiding does not work. Moving the cursor outside the preview window hides it. - Rated 3 out of 5by TORO, 6 years ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14230409, 6 years agoI've been waiting for something like that to show up since Coolpreviews stopped being supported.
Thanks a lot!!! - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 14228659, 6 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by recycler.fox, 6 years agoWould be great to have some changeable options, like preview icon appearance timeouts and position; autohide preview window timeout; preview window vertical size, also black/white lists.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Atrazine, 6 years agoUPDATE May 2020 > +1 star/ -1 star
Even though there is no further development on this extension (because of the "keep it simple" policy), it has survived over many Firefox updates and is still fairly reliable (+1). Unfortunately, when titles are included in hyperlinks (i.e.,
The known workarounds: 1) quickly move the mouse pointer away from the link and hope that the pop-up symbol is still remains on screen just long enough to hover on it or 2) move the mouse away from the link, hover over the link again and hope that the title text pop-up does not completely hide the SLP-pop-up symbol.

UPDATE Sept. 2018: 4 -> 3 stars
The lack of settings and intermittent quirkiness (see minus-points below) for this great tool is really silly, given how simple it would be (modifying link_preview.css and link_preview.js!)
---------------------
Not having a replacement for CoolPreviews ("Preview and share links and media without leaving your current page.") prevented me from updating Firefox since version 45 or so.
This plugin, though still quite rudimentary, provides the essentials not only for viewing links on mouse-over in a popup window (which can be pinned) and still keep the source page in view, but also for working productively (e.g. for web development, for making CMS backend settings) in the popup window.
+ very quick response when mousing-over the preview popup symbol (nice!)
+ minimal essentials (independent forward/backward navigation and scrollbars, keep-open pin, option to open previewed link in new tab)
+ non-obstructive (does not cover other browser elements such as bookmarks, menus, sidebar, scrollbars)
- no popup window resizing or moving (stubbornly covers just over half of the current page) either on-the-fly or in any settings (is there a hack for this?)
- popup symbol sometimes sluggish to appear or does not appear at all on first mouse-over on a link
Looking forward to updating this GREAT, INDISPENSABLE extension to FIVE STARS in the future! - Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 14169978, 6 years agoOn some websites (e.g. ebay.de) the preview window closes and the link opens in the same tab from where I previewed. Hence my former website disappears and is replaced by the previewed link. It does not behave that way on all websites. When working as intended then this tool is excellent, thank you! I am also a former Cool Preview user and so greatful to Lecron about this new Addon. If you need further details to understand/debug my issue, please feel free to drop a line.
- Rated 3 out of 5by tbrimbo, 6 years agoThe preview window closes itself and the link opens on a new tab within 2 seconds even though I haven't clicked it. Since no one else mentioned this issue, I wonder if it has anything to do with my Linux system.
EDIT: I just realized that the issue occurs only on Reddit. - Rated 4 out of 5by fla_hotrod, 6 years ago
- Rated 4 out of 5by Lateron, 6 years agoUnfortunately it gets in the way of ImTranslator which I use a lot. I miss Cool Previews a lot. Is there a way to turn this add on On or OFF? It seems to have superseded ImTranslator. When I disable it, ImTranslator reappears.
CANCEL that! It means I cannot translate a LINK, but the text is still translating by using ImTranslator.
Great job !!
