About this extension
Vidigest turns long videos into something you can read in seconds.
Open a video, click the Vidigest icon, and choose:
- Download the transcript as a plain text file, with no setup at all.
- Summarize it with AI: a two-line TL;DR followed by key points, in three lengths (short, medium, long).
FEATURES
- Choose your AI provider: Google Gemini, Mistral AI (France), Infomaniak AI Services (Switzerland), Ollama running locally on your computer, or any OpenAI-compatible service.
- Summary language: your browser's language, the video's language, or a fixed language (English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and more).
- History of your last 50 summaries, with a link back to each video.
- Export any summary as a Markdown file (works great with Obsidian or Notion).
- Interface in English and French.
PRIVACY FIRST
Vidigest has no server and collects nothing. The transcript is sent only to the AI provider you picked, and only when you click "Summarize". Your API key stays in your browser. With Ollama, nothing ever leaves your computer.
GOOD TO KNOW
- The video must offer a transcript (manual or auto-generated captions).
- You bring your own API key and must follow your provider's terms of use.
Vidigest is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.

Summaries require your own API key from an AI provider (Gemini, Mistral, Infomaniak…) or a local Ollama server. Downloading the transcript works without any setup.
YouTube changes its pages from time to time. If transcripts stop loading, please report it here: https://github.com/spamoi33/vidigest/issues
