About this extension
Watch Together keeps two browsers in sync while you watch the same video on almost any website with a standard video player.

Each of you plays the video on your own computer, in full quality and with your own account. There is no screen sharing and no DRM black screen. Only small events such as play, pause, and seek are sent between you.
Features
  • Synchronized playback — play, pause, and seek stay in sync
  • Share your current tab — send the tab to your friend; they can Open, Decline, or Open and don't ask again
  • Ready-state synchronization — waits until both players are ready; ads are ignored, so you can click through them at your own pace
  • Chat bubbles — send short messages directly on the page, including in fullscreen. Press Alt+C to write, with quick replies such as "Wait a moment"
  • Playback notices — see short notices when your friend pauses, plays, or seeks
  • Drift correction — automatically corrects small differences between the two players while watching
  • Sync toggle — turn synchronization off at any time
  1. One of you clicks "Create room" and sends the short room code (for example abcd-efgh) to the other (Discord, Messenger, anything).
  2. The other enters the code and clicks Connect. The connection is ready in a few seconds.
Only one friend fits in a room. If the public service is unavailable, a manual fallback (copy and paste codes) is included.

Watch Together has no account, no analytics and no server of its own, and it sends nothing to the developer.
To connect, the two browsers are introduced to each other by the free public PeerJS service (0.peerjs.com). During this short step it receives the random room code and the connection details of both browsers, including their IP addresses. After the connection is established, the add-on disconnects from it.
Video events (play, pause, seek), chat messages, your nickname and the address of a tab, only when you choose to send it, travel directly to your friend over an encrypted WebRTC connection. If a direct connection is not possible, the traffic may be relayed through PeerJS relay servers, which cannot read it because it is encrypted. The manual fallback uses public STUN servers (Google, Cloudflare) instead.
Your nickname and settings are stored locally in your browser.

• Both of you need access to the page you are watching
• It works with pages that use a standard HTML video element. Custom players may not work
• Videos shorter than 60 seconds are ignored (ads, previews)
• The room code is a secret: share it only with the person you want to watch with
• Requires Firefox 140 or newer
