来自 Firefox 用户 12648956， 5 年前Starting off with the default voice I felt it will be a 1 star rating. I went through many voice options and they are pretty much all robotic and of low sound quality. The real slap in the face occurs when selecting a Google standard voice, you need to grant extra permissions which is fine and you are redirected to Google's text to speech site (https://cloud.google.com/text-to-speech/#put-text-to-speech-into-action)
The voice on the Google site (wavenet-d) is what most people would enjoy, very natural and of high sound quality BUT it is not what you then using this addon.
This addon does what it says on the tin, >eat bean every day 8-/

发布于 5 年前Hi there, Google charges $16/million characters for Wavenet voices. Going through that permission process is the only way to get it for free, albeit for a limited time. This text-to-speech technology is still very new, that's why Google and others charge a lot of money for it. But we expect it will become a commodity in the future. Microsoft Edge indeed already provides some very high quality TTS voices for free with its browser.

- It would be great if there were also a context menu option called "Read aloud from here."
With the standard columns, it always pauses briefly at the end of each line. If it would first analyze the entire sentence and then read it aloud in one go, that would be much more pleasant. I would find pauses between sentences much more pleasant! - I was having high hopes at first, but then I learned it doesn't let you use the different voices for TTS you may have installed on Windows, for example. I WANT TO LISTEN TO ANDREW'S VOICE DAMMIT (seriously, his TTS voice is really nice on the ears, you'll find it in Narrator settings as a "Natural" voice)
- 评分 5 / 5来自 Didactic Traveller， 3 个月前Just want to counter the people rating one star and saying there's only awful voices. There are really good ones, particularly supertonic. Just download them in the settings and activate them. Seriously, try opening the settings before review bombing.
Moreover, the native PDF support is quite good. PDFs can cause trouble with this sort of software, yet it works great here. - This extension was great! I have problems seeing font on dark websites because there isn't a light mode toggle on some of them. So, I use to use this to read what was posted. However, I was going to use it again today, it now asks for permission for all open url data when before it just did what it was meant to do. No thank you to that. It'd be great if it returned back to what it originally did.
