That is correct, this extension neither blocks or skips ads, it only mutes them for their entire duration. This approach isn't ideal, but it avoids detection and is also fairly robust against changes from Spotify, which is why this extension still works after >3y without an update. If you're looking for something more sophisticated the extension Spotify Adblock ( https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/spotify-adblock/ ) looks like a good alternative though.
