by LookingForLoo, a month agoWanted to write a longer review but the character limit got me, so my main points are:
- Responding with "examine your behavior" and "intersex people are welcome so long as they don't align themselves with TERFs(which in this context means "correctly use a term intersex people came up with to explain their experiences and identities" and is not, in fact, actually aligning oneself with TERFs)" when people point out that your extension is being used to harm innocent marginalized people is unacceptable. Given how much of our lives are online and how much violence, harassment, and ostracization an anti-trans marking invites you absolutely need to have a real solution to people using SE as a weapon. If you can't come up with a solution then I mean this in all seriousness, you need to take this down until you can. I say this as a trans person, the pros in no way outweigh the cons, and it's WELL past time y'all did something about this.
- While SE is helpful in some cases(flagging celebrities, news sources, and other organizations) it has always been exploitable and thus if you do use it, see it as a suggestion, not as an inherently concrete or factual stamp of dis/approval, especially when it comes to individuals. Being able to think critically and understand ideologies and beliefs *on your own* is a vital skill to have. If you use SE you should investigate any people you see marked either way for yourself to decide if they are actually transphobic or not, because recognizing general transphobia as well as transphobia directed at trans women, trans men, nonbinary people, and how it changes based on race, as well as TERF/radfem rhetoric and dogwhistles and, critically, tell the difference between all that and legitimate language/theory used by trans and intersex people is something you should absolutely be able to do yourself if you want to be a good trans ally and forward the cause of trans liberation.
- It is really fucking weird of y'all to rightfully say that Pepe the Frog emotes/memes are alt-right dogwhistles and thus transphobic while claiming "theyfab" a slur made up by alt-right trolls on 4Chan to harm nonbinary people is "out of scope" like?? Make it make sense. Either all transphobia is bad or you don't think nonbinary people count as trans and so violence against them is fine, which is it.
- My faith in this extension continues to tank for ever person I see who is marked green despite having radfem in their bio and regularly interacting with actual self-identified TERFs. Radical feminism is always, ALWAYS transphobic and absolutely no one who claims to be a radfem should ever be marked as trans-friendly under any circumstances. It seems to a lot of the users of this extension that it's okay if blatant transphobia comes out of the right kind of trans person's mouth phrased the right way. And ofc I know this extension does require constant input to function, so I mark these people as red, but they stay green. The standard of what is considered transphobic by the people who use and maintain this extension is really strange, and I say that as someone who has been fighting radical feminism online for over 15 years. It's okay if someone is an open radfem, who spouts gender essentialist bs about the inherent evils of men and virtues of women so long as they include trans people in their nonsense, but intersex trans people trying to use a label they coined and nonbinary folks who would like to not be called slurs are treated like the problem?
This extension isn’t trustworthy atm and honestly even if it was working properly I would still say you should only use it if you're willing and able to vet people yourself. The path of queer and trans liberation is one you must be proactive in pursuing, blind trust, on the other hand, is oppression's favorite tool and it will get you absolutely nowhere.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 17534287, 8 hours agoaddon is frequently abused to falsly label trans (especially transmasc) and intersex people as transphobic
this needs to be fixed for an addon like this to be trustworthy - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18291972, 8 hours agoused to be really useful for spotting innocuously-named terfs and transphobe groups, but now it seems like random trans and intersex people are marked as red cause of stupid intracommunity discourse and that really waters it down to the point of uselessness. i dont care if some trans person is posting about being a dude or being intersex in a way that some other trans people dont like, i care if someone is posting shit about the divine feminine womb energy and how trans people are coming for your children. those do not belong in the same category.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Ivia Relle, 9 hours agoHas been increasingly plagued with falsely red users/accounts on multiple sites, often simply for speaking about intersex or transmasc issues. This has always been a small issue with the extension, but it's become widespread recently, and makes it completely unreliable for its purpose as written.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Protofem, 2 days agountrustable moderation, the dev explicitly allows for ace-phobic content, while not mentioning a stance on other forms of non-trans LGBT-phobia. People using this extension are targeting transmascs and intersex users and the devs which do "human review" are enabling and engaging in it.
- Rated 1 out of 5by mars, 2 days agoI'm seeing more and more people who are vitriolic towards trans men marked green while people who are actively trans-supportive and even a local trans activist in my community are marked red
- Rated 1 out of 5by tee, 3 days agono longer useful for what i had been using it for, as someone who is intersex + trans i'm disappointed in the criteria changes and apparent hostility towards intersex trans people.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 17255243, 3 days agoI've used this app for a long time, and it used to be such a valuable starting point - a 'heads up' to look at accounts carefully - and it felt so good when an account of mine went green! But more and more, I'm finding that red accounts aren't actually anti-trans. Sad to lose what was a useful tool, but if the moderation isn't accurate, then I have to uninstall.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 15308834, 3 days agoFantastic tool for finding and labeling transmisogynists, including the many you can find in these reviews :)
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18748155, 3 days agoWas incredibly useful for blocking TERFs, but now it is marking random transmasculine and intersex individuals who are just sharing normal shit? As an agender person myself, its super disappointing to see this add-on go downhill and try to divide the community.
- Rated 3 out of 5by Alden, 4 days agoI used it as a jumping off point for identifying transphobes. very useful as a "you should verify this" flag. however, more trans people/trans allies have been flagged as potentially dangerous recently, making it much less user-friendly.
- Rated 5 out of 5by E!, 4 days agoVery useful for identifying transphobic users, including transmisogynists.
- Rated 1 out of 5by SardonicPlague, 4 days agoI think the fact that the five star reviews that are being recently uploaded to combat the complaints being levied at Shinigami Eyes contain anti-transmasc language is almost proof in and of itself that these people are biased. If there are all these one-star reviews saying that you're being biased and all you can do to reply to accusations with more bias, you're probably a bit biased!

- Rated 1 out of 5by Dove, 4 days agoused to be a very useful addon, now is just a biased bigotted mess
- Rated 1 out of 5by nepnym, 4 days agoi remember when using slurs was considered to be transphobic. the current problems are By Design, and have been for a while.
this is a disgustingly sexist terf extension downright lying about being community-friendly. i wouldnt be surprised if it came out in a few years it was a psyop to sow division within the community. this is the material effect it has -- i cant wrap my head around the intent.
the double standard and pattern of the terms on the rules page is, bad, to say the least.
1 star reviews now outnumber 5 star ones.
ill avoid making comments towards the creator, because anything i may say would get this review flagged -- i find the extension itself deserving of a red flag using its original, more fair ethos. the current rules page makes my blood boil.
as note (important): trying to find any further info on the current maintainer, etc, anything/anyone to contact further leads to a lot of bad/weird/harmful misinfo! this is separate and only towards the practice of the extension. there is no minority where it is suddenly appropriate to use hate speech.
i was the first person to open an issue on the gh about this -- so i guess ill stack on to the 1 star reviews, if this helps anyone. i really hope this problem can be fixed because of the large size of the userbase (this extension is even in papers!), so it's sad to see this change.
and -- as an important note -- based off some of the dev responses to reviews -- afab transfem is for intersex people. agab terminology is for intersex people, and appropriating it to exclude intersex experiences is, needless to say, Bad. and its also not trans friendly, because it explicitly, and i cannot stress this enough, excludes a specific Kind of trans person (in a way that is bioessentialist! there's nothing noted about amab transmascs is there? and if there was -- i'd be complaining about that too!).
to specifically flag and exclude afab transfems from the community would be to say that the only trans people who matter are perisex. to only highlight specific hate terms against non-binary and perisex transmasculine people as being ok to use would be to imply that the only community experiences that matter are those of transfems -- and that the only people trans enough to deserve protecting -- are transfem.
anything less than "all trans people" (by demographic) is transphobic. i dont know why we cant spotlight the struggles and oppression against one group without specifically putting down and excluding another group. it speaks poorly of transmisogyny as a concept to use it as a bludgeoning tool to silence more vulnerable members of the community, even those who are transfem. im tired. - Rated 1 out of 5by kanagan, 4 days agousually super useful but ive been seeing a weird amount of people flagged as red that have nothing transphobic on their accounts (a lot of them trans themselves and not the reactionary conservative types either) recently. i don't know if they turned over verification to AI but maybe the system needs to be revised because it's really affecting how much i can trust the extension.
- Rated 1 out of 5by s1llyb33tle, 5 days agoused to be a decent tool, now the moderation team seem to have lost it and are marking innocent people -- especially intersex folk, transmen, trans poc and others -- as transphobic. the moderators are discriminatory and are tearing the community apart; don't trust this extension anymore
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18745061, 5 days agoI used to trust this addon but the recent changes have rendered its point moot. Back to individual manual filtering we go.
- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18744322, 5 days agoUsed to love this but then they started marking innocent people for sharing their intersex experiences
- Rated 1 out of 5by cirose, 5 days agoA few days ago I uninstalled this extension, and yesterday it suddenly was installed again. And now it says I can't uninstall it. (There are ways to do it, but I can't do it from the extensions settings page like usual). I liked what this addon offered origianally, but it has lost the thread and I will not support their current efforts. Now I have to go figure out how to pull this out of my browser.

- Rated 1 out of 5by minty, 5 days agoI got this extension to identify TERFs, not trans people with heterodox opinions on whether trans men count as oppressed or not. I'm only even keeping it so I can remove these false flags, but I don't recommend anyone download it for any other purpose.
