by rastus, 2 years agoI posted previously, before I grudgingly switched to the new browser extension instead of the old desktop app browser extension. I had complained about the forced change. I also was hesitant because of my (and others) perception that the new version would be less secure. I am still not convinced about the security - because Nord never would explain why I shouldn't be concerned. You just said, in effect, don't worry about it. No technical explanation or reference to one.
Anyway, with that said, I want to state that this new browser extension works way way way better than the old one. It's consistently reliable. And another advantage is that I don't need to find a Linux version of the NordPass desktop program, which previously was difficult unless you use Ubuntu and don't mind Snap files.
Someone said you still need the desktop program. Well yes and no. If you don't mind opening the browser to get whatever you have stored in NordPass, then you don't have to have it. I use both in Windows but only have the browser extension in Linux, and I have no complaints.
So this is good. Now, if you (Nord) would just provide some technical explanation of how the security works when it's part of the browser - or why I should not be concerned about it.

Can't add new items if "offline". UPDATE: removing and re-installing seems to have fixed the issue. HOWEVER, it reminded me of a terrible workflow issue - in order to access Nord PASS, you need to sign in with your (separate) Nord ACCOUNT, which means that fundamentally you can't use Nord PASS to secure your Nord ACCOUNT with a long/random password. God, I wish I hadn't been tricked into renewing this subscription. I should just accept the loss and switch to Bitwarden.

- Rated 1 out of 5by WA, 15 days agoSince version 7, impossible to connect to the extension without activating browser history ! Why should I change my habits for this addon ?
I will definitely not renew after this, and neither will other members of my family.
After contacting the support in november, they were able only to suggest "activate browser history" after a few exchanges, and now after several new updates, the only change is that the error message is clear : "NordPass can't be used because your browser history is turned off". We are now in january, and there is no indication that this issue will be fixed anytime soon (or is even considered to be a real issue by the developers).
It is a shame for a long time customer to have to change, bitwarden and other competitors (that I use for work) are just better right now.
With version 6, OK, I had to check a checkbox after each connection, but at least I could connect. This version is really bad.Developer response
