by Anna, 8 months agoI really like the Proton suite overall.
However, the authentication process for Proton Pass is just... not working properly.
Either:
- I don’t set a separate password for Proton Pass (keep the same password as my Proton account), then Proton Pass extension allows anyone who is logged into my browser to use my passwords without asking first for authentication.
Or:
- I set a specific password for Proton Pass. Then I am asked to first log in to my Proton account with my regular password, and then log in again to Proton Pass with my Proton Pass password. And yet, the extension continues to ask me to “activate Proton Pass” by authenticating... so I’m unable to use my passwords.
This is so confusing. In the first case, why isn’t the extension asking for the Proton password before activation? In the second case, why doesn’t it accept only(!!) the Proton Pass password and start working?
(Thankfully, I have my KeePass manager as a backup.)

posted 8 months agoHello! Thank you for your feedback Anna. You could add a PIN to unlock the browser extension if you prefer not to set a separate password for Proton Pass.
After setting an extra password for Proton Pass, the extension will require you to provide your original password and your extra password on the first login, afterwards it should only require the extra password.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Laurent, 2 days agoA solid tool overall, but its usefulness is limited in my case. I have two accounts (personal and work) and there's no way to switch between them directly from the plugin. I have to open the desktop app to do it, which defeats the speed advantage of having a browser extension. Adding account switching to the plugin would make it much more practical for users with multiple accounts.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Quitch, 7 days agoAs a paid user of Proton's services, I find this mostly excellent. There are three annoying limitations at this time:
1. It is dependent on password and TOTP rather than supporting passkey authentication to log into the extension.
2. Its SimpleLogin alias notes don't sync to the alias description at SimpleLogin.
3. It won't offer to save credentials after you submit them, only before. So you might save credentials that are rejected. If you don't save them, the list of generated passwords isn't the easiest to discover.Developer response
