by TheFlyingCelt, 10 days agoAs a tech reviewer running a 60,000-subscriber YouTube channel, I pride myself on giving honest, unbiased software assessments to my audience. I wanted to love Proton Pass—the UI is clean, the privacy stance is admirable, and features like the Linux PIN support sounded fantastic on paper.
Unfortunately, after putting it through rigorous real-world testing across multiple browsers (Brave, Edge, Vivaldi) and operating systems (Windows and Linux), the reality is that Proton Pass is still far too raw and full of critical UX/autofill flaws.
Here is what failed during testing:
Inconsistent TOTP / 2FA Banners: On major platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and eBay, the "Verification Code" fill-in banner simply fails to trigger, forcing manual copy-pasting.
Broken Form Detection on Signups: On complex or multi-field registration forms (like standard e-commerce signup pages), the extension routinely fails to inject identity data (Name, Surname, Address) or even offer password generation.
Lack of Manual Fallback: Unlike competitors that feature a dedicated manual "Force Fill" button inside the extension popup when auto-detection fails, Proton Pass leaves you completely blind and forces manual copy-paste.
Because I value transparency with my YouTube community, I cannot recommend Proton Pass in its current state as a reliable daily driver. I’ve already canceled my subscription and requested a refund.
Proton has a great infrastructure, but until these fundamental autofill and heuristic bugs are fixed, it's simply not ready to compete with mature password managers. I'll gladly review it again if they manage to patch these issues in the future.
