- Rated 5 out of 5by Vance, 2 days agoI'm not concerned at all about the new permissions -- it's the exact same thing as before, but looks "worse" (though still relatively harmless) due to re-labeling on behalf of Mozilla.
I get it, of course it's violently irritating to see something like that pop up regardless of circumstances. But my friends, there's literally zero difference between this new permission notification and the previous permissions with regard to privacy. It seems that Mozilla is just trying to be clearer about permissions (which is actually a good thing). It can make extensions/permissions look more intimidating than they actually are sometimes because the categories are so broad. Nothing permission-wise has actually changed.
This isn't even a Return YouTube Dislike changing their permissions thing, it's just a "Mozilla decided to re-label some stuff" thing. All gucci.
...Heh, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that if I were to ever pay a monthly subscription for an extension, though, I would be figuratively (and possibly literally) smoking the crack. I would be happy to pay a one-time purchase/donation like DeArrow, though (it doesn't have to just be $1, lol).
So yes, I admit that Netflix and it's consequences have been a disaster for the "people who can do basic multiplication and understand $15 a month = $150 a year" race. I would never attempt to deny that. I'm happy to see you earning something back for all your hard work on creating/upkeeping this thing, though.
People rarely want to give developers enough credit (let alone anything of actual monetary value) for the extensions that they figure just magically exist and upkeep themselves for free. As long as it's all for new, extra stuff (and original functions don't get locked behind a paywall as "features"), I'm all for it.
God bless, hope the negative reviews ease off once people actually start to understand what is happening (and that you've done literally nothing wrong.) xoxox - Rated 5 out of 5by aggrave, 2 days agoLike many others, the new permissions thing concerned me, but unlike many others I actually looked into it and - like other reviews say - it's just a change on how Mozilla defines these permissions. Let this hopefully be a lesson to at least one person to research something before making conclusions.
- Rated 5 out of 5by pandazorus, 2 days agoHello Dmiry. Thanks for this extension. I've been using it for years without issues.
Like many others, the recent permissions change felt fishy and prompted me to take a look at reviews.
It appears that the change is safe and that it's Firefox's new permission model that is somewhat misleading.
I suggest that you display an explanatory statement before the extension requests the new permission. You already kind of did, but it does not explain *why* such "intrusive" permissions are now required. Thanks. - Rated 3 out of 5by prospectus, 2 days ago"Optional data collection, according to the developer:
Authentication information
Browsing activity
Personally identifying information
Website activity
Website content"
Apparently not "optional" anymore, as I can't use the extension without showing my browsing activity, etc. I have uninstalled this extension until this privacy concern is corrected
EDIT: If is the case that it's a FF enforced label, then the developer should update the description of their extension, because it currently leads the users into believing these are optional permissions, when they are notDeveloper response
posted 2 days agoThat is not my choice though - it's FF decision to label extension reading YouTube video url as "tracking website activity" - and without these permissions - extension simply can't work - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 12338644, 2 days agoREAD BEFORE 1-STARRING
I was initially scared by the new data collection popup and denied every update since, but now the extension stopped working, which forced me to remove it or investigate it.
Saw the devs explanation in the description, but didn't just trust the devs word as was still sceptical, so I dug in and did a quick audit of the open source code, it's clearly safe. Sounds good, but then I found out that Mozilla doesn't build that and instead receives manual source from the dev, so I dug more, got the OSS code, downloaded the extension file and compared the code, they are the same. It's exactly as the dev claims: the popup is just Mozilla's new required labelling, not new data collection. The extension only talks to its own API and YouTube, votes are just a random IDs, and nothing else is sent. Safe to update, the dev isn't hiding anything.Developer response

posted 2 days ago"your browsing" means the URL of youtube video you're watching - to get the dislike counts for that video. That's how it always worked - FF just has new requirements on how to label it.
Extension has access only to YouTube- Rated 1 out of 5by taramaya, 2 days agoThis was great until the developer recently requested to track my Internet usage, etc.
Developer response
posted 2 days agoI get why that label looks scary, but it isn't your internet usage - RYD only runs on YouTube. "Browsing activity" here is just the ID of the YouTube video you open, so the extension can look up its dislikes. That's how it always worked; Firefox now asks every extension to label it. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19996639, 2 days ago
- Rated 1 out of 5by Zap, 2 days ago11/2/2026 - Recieving intrusive ads to buy premium version of extension. This was an issue several months ago where it was described as an accident, but now its back. I understand there are operating costs, but if wikipedia is struggling to get $1 for the most useful website in the world I fear this niche extension is not financially feasible.
- Rated 1 out of 5by labiyur86, 2 days agoPeople, remove this worthless extension as soon as possible and report it. Just look at what it demands—and what it refuses to work without:
-Authentication information
-Internet activity
-Personally identifiable information
-Website activity
-Website content
The developer’s responses contain blatant lies regarding the reasons for these requirements. I installed the "YouTube Dislike Counter: Return Dislike Count" extension instead, and it (for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) requires no permissions whatsoever—unlike this one.
The developer is a brazen liar who uses false claims and manipulation.Developer response
posted 2 days ago"I installed the "YouTube Dislike Counter: Return Dislike Count" extension instead, and it (for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)" - yeah, because it has 500 users and was never reviewed by FF. It could literally have a crypto miner in it - but your inability to read leads you to believe that it's somehow safer.
1. These are the new rules, not everyone was forced to follow yet, it depends on update date.
2. The said permissions are only applied on YouTube, not any other site
3. Personally identifiable information and Authentication information - are only requested from users who want to log in with Patreon/Github.
The remaining permissions:
1. Browsing activity - when you open a YouTube video, the extension sends its video ID to fetch the dislike count.
2. Website content - things like the visible like count, which helps estimate dislikes.
3. Website activity - your Like or Dislike click, which counts as your vote.
Repeating again - this is only on YouTube - not all sites. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18118925, 2 days agosold out to data farming, and now has pop-up ads for patreon
Developer response
posted 2 days agoNothing is sold, and the extension only runs on YouTube. Firefox now asks every extension to label what it sends - for RYD that's the video ID to look up dislikes, and your likes and dislikes with a random ID. Same as it always was.
About Patreon: Premium only shows up in the raw counts panel under the video ("Hide raw counts" in the settings turns it off) and in RYD comments. If you saw a pop-up somewhere else, could you tell me what and where? It could be a bug. Developer response
posted 2 days agoNothing has been sold. The new prompt is Firefox's rule - every extension now has to label what it sends, with the same broad labels. For RYD that's the ID of the YouTube video you open, to look up its dislikes, and your likes and dislikes with a random ID that isn't linked to your Google or YouTube account. That's how it always worked.
The code is open if you want to check: https://github.com/Anarios/return-youtube-dislike- Rated 1 out of 5by Anon, 2 days agoThey just added an intrusive advertisement that shows up in youtube comment sections trying to sell their patreon to you. This is unacceptable. Immediately removed this, and I now regret trusting the devs' excuses for the additional permissions that were required a while back. Now that I know that they're the sort of people who would force in an advertisement without user consent like this, I can only imagine what sort of things they'd be willing to do with my browser data.
Developer response
posted 2 days agoSorry, that's not meant as an ad - it's RYD comments, which only show up on videos where YouTube's own comments are turned off. Everyone can read and react there; posting needs a Commenter membership, and that's what the link is for. "Hide RYD comments" in the settings turns the panel off.
On the browser data worry: RYD only runs on YouTube and doesn't read other websites. It sends the video ID to look up dislikes, and your likes and dislikes with a random ID. - Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 19754388, 2 days agoArguing with users as a dev is just embarrassing. Doesn't matter if they are ignorant in their assumptions; the new permissions request was always there you are just now being forced to make your data handling more transparent. Doesn't help the explanation of the new preferences reads like it was written by a 2nd grader.
Needless to say, this extension doesn't ACTUALLY take any meaningful "personal information", though it *could* be used to track every video a user watches to build a profile on a user.
You can say you won't, but things change and bad actors have accessed much more critical information before. 3 stars because I haven't witnessed something as sad as those review replies in quite some time.Developer response
posted 2 days ago"Arguing with users as a dev is just embarrassing." - should I ignore factually wrong claims?
"the new permissions request was always there" - it was announced a year ago: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2025/10/23/data-collection-consent-changes-for-new-firefox-extensions/
"though it *could* be used to track every video a user watches to build a profile on a user." -that's pretty obvious, majority of users, though, assume that it now tracks all their actions on all sites - that's the part I dispute. - Rated 5 out of 5by Scase, 2 days agoExcellent extension, and definitely a 5 star review for the new data collection prompt explanation in the description. Keep it up!

posted 2 days agoSorry if it came across as pushy. Dislike counts are still free, the raw counts too. Premium only shows up in the raw counts panel under the video ("Hide raw counts" in the settings turns it off) and in RYD comments. If you saw it somewhere else, could you tell me what exactly and where? It could be a bug.- Rated 1 out of 5by JooJ, 2 days agoUsed to be great, but now it requires permission to harvest more data. No other extensions I have installed asked for more permissions, just this one. Away you go!

posted 2 days ago"No other extensions I have installed asked for more permissions, just this one." - yeah, this one is among the unucky first ones to update. Plus - many other extensions simply don't do things which require these permissions. - Rated 5 out of 5by DestyNova, 3 days agoNice add-on. I'd been using it for a long time and just noticed some new pop-ups relating to permissions and privacy today.
I had to do some digging to determine that (to my understanding), none of the requested permissions extend to what I do *outside Youtube*, and this seems to be confirmed in the extension permissions page.
I would recommend to the author to amend the new popup to make clear that no data will be transmitted about activity on ANY OTHER SITE other than Youtube, which is essential for the basic functionality of the plugin.Developer response
posted 2 days agoThanks, good suggestion - and you read it right: RYD's site access covers only YouTube and its own API, nothing else. The latest update now says it right in the popup: RYD only works on YouTube.
